AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ to End With An Extended Season 11

September 9, 2020 By Katie Leave a Comment

The Walking Dead will end its decade plus run in 2022 with the eleventh season! But a spinoff is on the horizon. Get the details here!

The Walking Dead has been a Sunday night staple since 2010, but its tenure on AMC will come to an end in 2022. There will be some disagreement among fans of the show, some saying the end comes too late to save the series’ legacy, and others desperately wanting more.

The eleventh season will be extended with a total of 24 episodes aired over a two year period. A typical TWD season lasts 16 episodes, aside from seasons one and two. It will be very interesting to see where the writers decide to take the show. The Whisperer story arc will be complete by that point. Will they give our favorite group an HEA or HFN?

This brings us to the spinoff news.

After the end of the flagship series, AMC has already announced that in 2023 a series that follows fan favorites, Daryl and Carol will air. Is this series going to follow them as they go in search of Rick and Michonne if that storyline doesn’t get wrapped up? Or will they go to New Mexico and make friendship bracelets like they spoke of in season 10?

I have to admit, the idea of a Daryl and Carol led series doesn’t really excite me. I like both characters, but I’m tired. I don’t feel like there’s much left to do with them unless you’re giving them happiness, and I can’t imagine them as a couple. I’ll definitely hold out for the synopsis, but that’s a hell of a slow burn for it to make sense. I know many Caryl shippers who would disagree, though. If that’s the case, good for y’all. You played the long game and won.

On top of that spinoff is The Walking Dead: World Beyond which will run for two seasons and focus on teenagers who have always been safe in the apocalypse. Then there’s Tales of The Walking Dead which will be a series that focuses on different characters within TWD universe. Then there are the films that follow Rick Grimes that are TBD.

Even though the series is ending, there seems like a lot on the horizon for the TWD universe. With that, I say this as someone who loved the series wholeheartedly, I hope they can bring it home. I really, truly do.

The season ten finale will air on October 4 at 9/8c on AMC.
