MUSIC REVIEW: ’25’ by Adele—5 Stars

December 12, 2015 By SeyElle Leave a Comment

WSN reviewed 25, the latest album from brilliant songstress Adele and loved every moment!
Also, get a sneak peek of Adele’s upcoming Radio City Music Hall concert, Adele: Live in New York City.

Slaydele Strikes Again!

Me: Adele…. Why you do me like dis?!
Me: *drowns in ocean of my own tears*

In order to listen to Adele’s 25, one must:
1. Allot no less than 48 hours for listening and reaction purposes.
2. Turn off all cellular connection, WiFi connection, and any other connection that will allow you contact to the outside world.
3. Have a bucket on stand-by in the event that your tears are too plentiful for your handkerchief.

As if the world wasn’t waiting, with breath bated, for Adele to slay all of our edges, with her newest album… As if the universe wasn’t on stand-by, waiting to be sucker-punched right in the feelings… As if 21 (which came out nearly five years ago) isn’t still number 16 on the Billboard 200… Adele has once again snatched souls across the globe with her newest release, 25.

25 exhibits hints of her moving, melancholy, piano ballad style that we’ve grown to love, heard in the leading single, and album opener “Hello.” However, Adele also serves us, lighter, upbeat feels with the high-spirited “Send My Love (To Your New Lover).” While 21 was the sound of a woman scorned, 25 is the sound of a queen that has dusted off her shoulders and assumed her thrown, wiser and understanding of the lost love.

Don’t get me wrong! “All I Ask”, co-written and produced by Bruno Mars, will 100% have you sending text messages you have no business sending to your exes from long ago (I know I’m guilty). But “Remedy” will grant you a sense of relief we’ve never received from Adele.

My personal favourite is “Million Years Ago”: produced by Greg Kurstin, it infuses dark flamenco undertones and follows the melody of the signature song from the time-honoured musical “Phantom of the Opera.”

Overall, 25 supplies us with the same raw emotional, spiritual, and gut wrenching sound that we’ve grown to love, and expect, from Adele. But for the first time, Adele allows the listeners to come up for air with spirit-lifting tracks inserted every couple of songs (e.g. how “Remedy” follows “When We Were Young”).

If you haven’t scurried over to iTunes or your closest Target, I suggest you do so…like yesterday. And if you’re waiting for it pop up on Spotify, or Apple Music (as I did for three days), don’t hold your breath! 25 will NOT be available for streaming.

So gather your coins and head over to your favourite music outlet and purchase the album today, because that will give you exactly 48 hours to immerse yourself in the album before Adele: Live in New York City (her Radio City Hall Concert), airs this Monday, December 14 at 10pm ET|PT on NBC.

***UPDATE (12/16/2015): Watch the full concert special HERE.
