VIDEO: Preview Tonight’s ‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 4, Episode 21 “Mother”

May 3, 2015 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Now that Zelena has revealed herself, what does this mean for Robin, Regina, and Storybrooke? Get a sneak peek of tonight’s Once Upon a Time “Mother”, airing at 8:00pm ET|PT on ABC.

Last week’s Once Upon a Time (“Lily“) began with a flashback to Fairy Tale Land—the Sorcerer’s Apprentice (Timothy Webber) called upon the Sorcerer to report how the Author (Patrick Fischler) had interfered in the story, which led to Maleficent’s child being infused with the Savior’s dark potential. Now the girls would always be entwined. But the Sorcerer was also adamant that the Author never be free to toy with fate again.

Of course, back in Storybrooke, the Author was not only free, but also Rumple (Robert Carlyle)  was providing him with the means to rewrite the book. Part of that journey would include a Dark Emma (Jennifer Morrison), and someone had to die at the Savior’s hands to start her down that path. As we know Cruella (Victoria Smurfit) was that someone.

Later on Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten) reached out to Emma to correct her parents’ horrible mistake—she wanted help finding her daughter, Lilith Page. What were the odds that she was Emma’s childhood friend? Well, the odds were great, indeed. Emma was pretty shocked and hurt, but Regina (Lana Parrilla) was able to motivate her to be proactive. They would take a SwanQueen road trip to find Lily in Lowell, Massachusetts and then continue to New York to save Robin (Sean Maguire) from Zelena (Rebecca Mader).

When they arrived in Lowell, they learned from one of Lily’s old neighbors that she’d died in a car crash a few years ago. Emma felt a lot of guilt…wasn’t Lily’s circumstances her fault? As they were driving to NYC, a wolf crossed the road and when Emma swerved, the car tire was damaged. It must have been fate because the waitress at the gas station was Lily (Agnes Bruckner, now using an alias of Starla). Emma confronted Lily and tried to explain their connection, but Lily didn’t buy it…she had moved on and didn’t need anything. Lily hadn’t even thought about Emma in years.

But that wasn’t true! When Emma and Regina followed Lily to her home they discovered that she knew about everything—Storybrooke, who Emma really was, and Snow/Charming’s deal with the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Lily wanted revenge, stole Emma’s car, and took off. Emma had no intention of letting Lily ruin her family again…but her darkness was starting to show. Emma and Regina were able to force Lily to stop and when it looked like Emma would shoot Lily, Regina was able to talk her down from crossing the line. Now, they would all go to New York.

When they arrived, Robin was glad to see Regina, but didn’t believe her about Marion really being Zelena. But even when Zelena revealed herself, Robin still refused to leave…because SHE WAS PREGNANT.

And in another flashback to Mankato, Minnesota in 1999, Young Emma (Abby Ross) was living with a new foster family and enjoying her life. They were even planning a camping trip. But things took an interesting turn when Young Lily (Nicole Muñoz) showed up to the house. She was in hiding after participating in a store robbery with her boyfriend and needed help. Emma’s new family was welcoming, but Emma was still suspicious…she didn’t want to mess up her new situation. Lily would leave, but needed Emma to help get her stuff from her boyfriend’s place. Emma got the necklace, but by the time she made it back to her house, Lily had left and stolen the money for the family camping trip.  🙁

Emma, feeling her foster parents’ disappointment, ran away. Lily found her sitting at a bus stop and wanted Emma to come with her. Without Emma, Lily’s life was darkness. But Emma was done. Even more interesting, we found out how Lily learned the truth about her circumstances…the Sorcerer’s Apprentice told her while on a bus out of town!

In tonight’s episode “Mother” written by Jane Espenson, directed by Ron Underwood, and guest-starring Barbara Hershey as Cora:

REGINA CONFRONTS HER MOMMY ISSUES—Emma returns to Storybrooke to reunite Lily with Maleficent while Regina and Robin struggle to cope with the implications of Zelena’s pregnancy. When Gold’s health takes a turn for the worse, Isaac looks to a new ally for help procuring the magic ink he needs to re-write history. In a Fairy Tale Land flashback, Cora returns from Wonderland to beg Regina’s forgiveness on the anniversary of Daniel’s murder. Cora vows to help her daughter find true love, but Regina remains suspicious of her mother’s intentions. (via ABC)

Watch these two clips from the upcoming show. In the first, Regina confronts Lily about her dark determination to get revenge on Snow and Charming. And the second clip features a flashback to Fairy Tale Land where Regina is lashing out at some of her subjects, though her father tries to calm her down:

What in the world does Regina want with Lily’s blood? Is it part of some spell to help get rid Zelena? And how about that flashback?! Sometimes I forget how much Regina has changed. Of course, in the past, much of her rage stems from losing the love of her life and her mother…
