STARZ gives us a first look at their upcoming original series Flesh and Bone in a new trailer and photo stills. The series premieres November 2015.
I might be dating myself by saying this, but I ADORE dance movies! Of course there are classics like Dirty Dancing and Footloose, but (in my humble opinion) the late 1990s and 2000s had a set on fantastic ones! I’m talking Save the Last Dance, Center Stage, Step Up, You Got Served, and so many more. In the interest of full disclosure (because if I can’t be honest with fellow fangirls/fanboys, who can I be honest with?!), during my freshman year of college, for three months straight, every Friday afternoon when I got back to my dorm from class, my friends and I would kick off the weekend with a viewing of Center Stage while munching on chex-mix. It was AWESOME.
Well, I mention all this so you know that my excitement about STARZ’s upcoming eight-hour limited series Flesh and Bone is genuine. Those of us who enjoy dance flicks should definitely have this on our radar!
Flesh and Bone follows a young dancer with a troubled past as she joins a prestigious ballet company in New York. The series explores New York City through the eyes of Claire, played by Sarah Hay, an emotionally wounded but transcendent ballerina navigating the dysfunction and glamour of the ballet world. Claire’s self-destructive tendencies amid her vaulting ambitions drive her in compelling, unforeseeable ways, especially when she is confronted with the machinations of the company’s mercurial Artistic Director, played by Ben Daniels and an unwelcome visitor from her past.
The series was created by Emmy award-winning Breaking Bad writer and Executive Producer, Moira Walley-Beckett, the first episode was directed by Australian filmmaker David Michôd, and the production, as a whole, was shot entirely in New York City.
Other cast members include a company of 22 accomplished ballet dancers—former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Irina Dvorovenko (Kiira), former American Ballet Theatre soloist Sascha Radetsky (Ross), Josh Helman (Bryan), Damon Herriman (Romeo), Tina Benko (Jessica) and Tovah Feldshuh (Ivana).

This is so intriguing…and speaking of Center Stage, my inner and outer fangirl is flailing because CHARLIE (AKA Sascha Radetsky)!!! What did you think of the trailer?
