Rebekah and Eva finally battle it out for control over “their” body! Preview tonight’s The Originals, “Exquisite Corpse,” airing at 8:00pm ET|PT on The CW.
The Originals returns tonight after a brief hiatus, but we’re still unsure about how to free Rebekah from Eva Sinclair’s influence.
The last time we were in New Orleans, the Josephine LaRue (Meg Foster) and the Treme witches came to Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) demanding that he turn over Eva/Rebekah (Maisie Richardson-Sellers). Eva had reasserted herself and started attacking and kidnapping children again. Elijah (Daniel Gillies) was able to convince Josephine to leave Eva with him for the time being. However, everyone was on high alert trying to figure out how to help Rebekah.
Rebekah turned to Davina (who was trying to figure out how to bring Kol back). But after leaving Davina (Danielle Campbell), Rebekah passed out only to awaken near warehouses and have no idea how she got there. Later we discovered that Eva had attacked Davina and was keeping her prisoner with other witches.
At the same time, Marcel was holding Vincent (now free from Finn’s influence) and revealed that for the last nine months he had been under Finn’s control. Marcel promised to tell Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) about everything that had happened to him and let him go if, in turn, Vincent shared what he knew about a fellow Treme witch, Eva Sinclair. At first Vincent refused, but after speaking with Cami (Leah Pipes) and finding out everything that Finn did while in his body, he revealed that Eva was actually his wife! (*sidenote* Yusuf Gatewood was phenomenal! It was incredible to see him morph from Vincent/Finn to Vincent, who was now dealing with anger and maybe even guilt.)
Meanwhile, during an invitation to lunch, Freya (Riley Voelkel) talked to her younger siblings about how she spent the last 1,000 years with Dahlia (Claudia Black). Dahlia essentially used Freya, channeling her niece’s power to augment her own and maintain her youth. We also found out that the reason Dahlia bargained for the first-born child in each Mikaelson generation was so she could form a coven of her own…all witches that she could use to draw endless power. And when she found out that Esther had ended her bloodline by making them all vampires, Dahlia insisted that Freya have children. When Freya resisted, Dahlia cast a spell/curse that would make them immortal and allow them both to sleep for a century, harnessing their power, then awake for one year. This is how they lived for the last 1,000 years.
Elijah and Rebekah wanted to ask Freya for help in freeing her from Eva’s influence, but Klaus (Joseph Morgan) still doubted if she could be trusted. As she was sharing stories about dreaming of being reunited with her siblings, Klaus snapped Freya’s neck. (*sidenote* It seemed to me that he was jealous of Freya possibly stepping in and taking a more central role in the family, and Klaus could never let that happen.) How else could Freya prove herself? She finally shared a story of why she was so determined to kill Dahlia. It turned out that Freya did fall in love during her one year in the 13th Century. She became pregnant, and when Freya tried to run away with her lover, Dahlia killed him. To prevent her aunt from getting ahold of her son, Freya tried to poison herself. Her baby died, but Freya (an immortal) came back to life. *heartbreak*
In the Bayou, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), Jackson (Nathan Parsons), and the wolves were training and testing out their new strength. Jackson and Aiden (Colin Woodell) were butting heads, both trying to assert their strength. Would Aiden eventually challenge Jackson to be the Alpha? (We know this is what Klaus would like to see happen.) Hayley promised that she would handle Klaus. When they returned to the compound, she confronted Klaus and demanded that he leave the wolves to Jackson’s leadership. But Klaus refused. If Dahlia was coming for Hope, he had sole authority in deciding the best way to protect her, no questions asked.
By the end of the episode, we still weren’t sure the best way to free Rebekah. She was scared, but Marcel assured her that they would do whatever it took to help her. Furthermore, it seemed that Dahlia had already begun to call for Baby Hope, via her music box.

CONTROLLING THE DEMON—When Eva Sinclair’s reemergence leaves Rebekah trapped and helpless, Klaus is forced to put aside his mistrust for Freya in order to save Rebekah’s life. Meanwhile, Hayley and Elijah learn more about Eva’s violent past from Josephine, who then makes a startling revelation about Hayley’s future. With time running out to save Rebekah, Marcel turns to a reluctant Vincent for his help to take down Eva, but his plan takes an unexpected turn, as Eva will not go down without a fight. (via The CW)
Producers Julie Plec and Michael Narducci talk more about what we can expect in the upcoming show. This week, Rebekah and Eva finally battle it out for control over “their” body. Klaus and the others struggle to figure out how to stop Eva without hurting Rebekah. Furthermore, it seems that the newly vampire-free Vincent might be the key:
Goodness, this episode is going to be really intense. But I’m looking forward to learning more Vincent, even if that means we have to see more of Eva’s demented past.
