HISTORY Channel renews Vikings for a fourth season; production on season four will begin this Spring in Ireland.
We’re half-way through the third season of Vikings, and things are beyond intense. After last week’s episode “The Usurper” so much is up in the air! Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and Aslaug’s (Alyssa Sutherland) relationship is in serious decline; Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) has lost her earldom; Ragnar is planning to raid to Paris, but will this even be possible with Ecbert’s (Linus Roache) betrayal in Wessex? We’ve already had major character death, bloody conflict, and there’s definitely promise of more to come!
Well, earlier today we found out that our journey with our favorite Northmen won’t end quite yet. In a press release, Dirk Hoogstra, EVP and General Manager, HISTORY & H2 announced that Vikings has been picked up for a fourth season! The first five episodes in season three has averaged 4.3 million total viewers (2.2 million adults 25-54, 2 million adults 18-49) and ranks as the number one cable series on Thursday nights in all key demos. No wonder HISTORY is bringing the show back.

According to Hoogstra:
“VIKINGS has raided the hearts of both audiences and critics, establishing itself as one of the most compelling, visually stunning dramas on television. We are so proud of our immensely talented cast and crew led by Michael Hirst, whose intriguing storylines and pivotal arcs have the perfect balance of scope, smarts and bloodshed to keep our loyal fans watching and wanting more.”
Roma Khanna, President, Television Group and Digital, MGM shared his excitment:
“VIKINGS is a tremendous success worldwide thanks to the visionary talents of Michael Hirst, the entire creative team and our partners at HISTORY. We look forward to entertaining audiences worldwide with the next epic season.”
Production on season four will begin this Spring in Ireland; however, we still have five new upcoming episodes in this current season with the finale slated for Thursday, April 23 at 10pm ET|PT.
It’s tough to speculate about what might be coming in Vikings fourth season since there’s still quite a bit left to explore in the ongoing one. Any thoughts?
We’ll definitely be bringing you weekly recaps and previews, so check back with WSN for all your Vikings updates!
