Little Lies by H. Hunting
New Adult/Sports Romance
Book Rating: 4.5 STARS

Little Lies may not be what you’re used to from Helena Hunting, and she’s been so awesome to let her readers know that ahead of time by publishing this novel under H. Hunting. Be forewarned, the angst is strong with this one.

That being said, it was the kind of angst that I love. It made my heart ache, but by the end of the novel, everything was set to rights. There are many different threads in this novel, and I hope that means that we’ll be getting other stories centering the PUCKED and ALL IN kids.

Let’s start with Lavender Waters. We first met her when she was a little kid during A Secret for A Secret. Queenie is her therapist, and continues to be so throughout Little Lies. Lavender is very soft-spoken as a child due to a traumatic event that happens in the first chapter of this novel. My heart was pounding as I was reading it. It was so well-written by Hunting. The first chapter is also when we see how protective Kodiak seems to be over Lavender.

That sets the stage for the novel. Lavender and Kodiak share deep anxiety issues and become very dependent on each other as they grow up. When an event happens in junior high that forces their families to examine their relationship, that’s when things get rocky for them.

Kodiak is very protective over Lavender, but he’s also very critical of himself. He doesn’t think he’s good enough and constantly pushes himself to be perfect. Due to this, he feels like he’s constantly letting himself and others down.

Things you need to know going in:

Parts of Little Lies are told through flashbacks that are interspersed throughout the novel. We don’t know what the tipping point was between Lavender and Kodiak to push them completely apart until almost halfway through. It’s well-paced, though. In a way, this is a second chance romance.

Things do get steamy, and it’s very, very hot. There are hints that lead you to believe that Kodiak likes certain things before we get to the steamy parts. Since Lavender knows him so well, she presses all his buttons along the way.

The angst can get intense, especially in one flashback scene, but my goodness, the resolution is so damn good!

River and {SPOILER} deserve all the happiness in the world. Fight me.

We get to see a majority of the PUCKED and ALL IN kids, and oh my goodness. I’m BEGGING Helena Hunting to write the BJ/Lovey novel we all need. BEGGING.

Overall, this is a solid story. I started reading it and couldn’t put it down. Those kind of novels have been few and far between this year. I’m a cold storage kind of reader, though, so I wanted a little more groveling on Kodiak’s part. I understand why Hunting had Lavender do things the way she did, and it works.

Don’t miss this one!

Synopsis

I don’t want you.

You mean nothing to me.

I never loved you.

I turned my words into swords.

And I cut her down.

Shoved the blade in and watched her fall.

I said I’d never hurt her, and I did.

Years later, I’m faced with all the little lies, the untruths, the false realities, the damage I inflicted, when all I wanted was to indulge my obsession.
Lavender Waters is the princess in the tower. Even her name is the thing fairy tales are made of.

I used to be the one who saved her.

Over and over again.

But I don’t want to save her anymore.

I just want to pretend the lies are still the truth.
