A Spoiler-Free Look at the Mid-Season Premiere of ‘The Walking Dead’!

The Walking Dead will be back in two weeks, but we’ve got a spoiler free preview of the back half of season nine here!

I said in a previous post that I was cautiously optimistic about The Walking Dead, and I wanted to see what the second half of season nine had to offer before I changed my viewing status. After having the opportunity to watch the mid-season premiere, “Adaption”, and 9.10, “Omega”, I can tell you that I’m excited about TWD again!

It feels like a return to the character driven roots of the series, and with Angela Kang at the helm, it’s obvious the series is benefiting from her guidance. The story moves now. That’s not to say that everything’s perfect, but it’s damn good.

Characters that we’ve known for a long time are getting a chance to shine and show growth. Background characters that have been with us for several seasons aren’t just decoration anymore. The scope of the show has narrowed and highlights a common theme between all communities moving forward. It’s so much better than the choppy storytelling of the last few seasons.

The bridges we see being built between characters after Rick’s departure are worth more than the bridge he was trying to see built that led to his demise. At least in my opinion.

Moving forward in the story, I know the Whisperers will play a huge part, and their comic!arcs have them wreaking all kinds of havoc, and I expect that to be the case here, too.

There are also the flashbacks that show us how Michonne and Daryl got their scars, and despite how heartbreaking that story may be, I want to see it play out. The writing so far has me positive it will be handled well and not dragged out unnecessarily. Remember, this story is so bad it drove wedges between all the communities, and Maggie left.

I’ll say this TWD Family, there’s purpose on The Walking Dead again, and I’m here for this! The first two episodes of this back half crack open the narrative and get us rolling for the action to come.

Changes status from “passive viewer” to “fangirl” again.

Watch the teaser trailer below and be sure to check in with us throughout season nine for our reviews and live tweeting!
