BOOK REVIEW: ‘Hooking Up’ by Helena Hunting — 4.5 STARS

November 7, 2017 By Katie Leave a Comment

Amalie hasn’t had the best day…well, no one would after hearing what she just heard at her reception over the speakers. Good thing she has an escape and another escape when she lands in paradise. Can paradise follow her home? Take a look at Hooking Up by Helena Hunting!

4.5 STARS
{Some Spoilers; Mature Content}

I absolutely loved this stand alone novel! It was fun, sexy, and full of swoons. In my opinion, this is one of Hunting’s best novels. There’s a whole lot of steam, but she also keeps her characters grounded in real life and their responsible…for the most part.

Amalie is humiliated at her wedding reception, and tries to get revenge by jumping the first guy she sees, who just happens to be her husband’s cousin, Lexington. He’s also the object of her lust, and the guy who asked her out first before her asshole of a husband swooped in and told her Lex was a bad guy.

Lex, being the complete good guy he is, turns her down and helps her escape her wedding reception then punches his cheating cousin in the face.

Coincidence leads Amie and Lex to be on the same flight, sitting next to each other, and eventually on the same tiny, tropical island. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and they both know it’s only a matter of time before something happens between them.

AND WHEN IT DOES!

Have mercy.

She has absolutely no control over her body, so i keep pumping while she shakes and chants oh God, oh God, oh God. She’s gorgeous when she’s falling apart.

I grab her chin. “Look at me.”

She struggles to open her eyes, but she eventually manages to lift her lids and meet my gaze.

“Who’s fucking you?”

She shudders. “You are.”

“Who made you come?”

She blinks, slow and hazy. “You did.”

“Wanna come again?

Of course, there are bumps along the way. Specifically, Amie’s husband, who won’t just sign the papers. He’s so stiff and condescending. I hate everything about Armstrong. His presence alone leads to Amie hiding what’s happening between her and Lex when they get back home. She doesn’t want to get involved with Lex deeper than she is while she’s still married, and Armstrong wants to pull her back by denying her her freedom.

He’s really the worst, and it leaves a lasting imprint on Amie.

Lex is the sweetest, though. He takes his time with Amie and doesn’t want to scare her off, but he’s in deep from the get-go, and I adore stories where the guy has to do the subtle chasing. It makes me happy sigh.

If you’re looking for a fun, sweet, sexy, little bit angsty read, this one is definitely the one for you! It’s always “hooking up” until suddenly it’s not, right??

One click this now and enjoy the rest of your week with Amie and Lex!

Official Summary

Amalie Whitfield is the picture of a blushing bride during her wedding reception–but for all the wrong reasons. Instead of proclaiming his undying love, her husband can be heard, by Amalie and their guests, getting off with someone else. She has every reason to freak out, and in a moment of insanity, she throws herself at the first hot-blooded male she sees. But he’s not interested in becoming her revenge screw.

Mortified and desperate to escape the post-wedding drama, Amalie decides to go on her honeymoon alone, only to find the man who rejected her also heading to the same tiny island for work. But this time he isn’t holding back. She should know better than to sleep with someone she knows, but she can’t seem to resist him.

They might agree that what happens on the island should stay on the island, but neither one can deny that their attraction is more than just physical.
