John Boyega stars in Pacific Rim Uprising, leading a new generation of Jaeger pilots when the Kaiju threat returns… watch the first trailer!
I could literally watch Pacific Rim every single day. Aliens emerging from another dimension via a portal in the Pacific Ocean, humans mind-melding with giant robots to fight the massive Kaiju (Team Gipsy Danger!)… throw in my boo thangs Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam, plus the badass Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori, and what’s not to love?!
Despite several stalled attempts with a Pacific Rim sequel, things finally got underway last summer when Legendary announced that John Boyega would come on board as the lead character in the second installment as Marshal Stacker Pentecost’s son. Once principal photography on Pacific Rim Uprising wrapped in March 2017, fans have been desperate to see the first trailer… and this weekend, we got our wish!
During Pacific Rim Uprising‘s New York Comic-Con panel this weekend, Boyega was on hand to debut the trailer and it is EVERYTHING!
At the end of Pacific Rim with the destruction of the Breach, we thought that the world was now safe from Kaiju. However, in the trailer we see that, ten years later, the threat has returned and the war must continue. Boyega is Jake Pentecost, and we begin with him linking up again with his estranged sister, Mako. She is leading a new generation of Jaeger pilots and urges Jake to join the fight. The monsters have evolved and they are VICIOUS. But these team of Jaegers (and their pilots) aren’t going down easy. As expected, the visual effects are on point and the character relationships look like they’ll be so compelling. Wacth the new trailer below:

It’s great to see Mako is back… but of course you know I’m curious about whether Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam) might show his face too *EEP* Newt (Charlie Day) and Hermann Gottlieb (Burn Gorman) are also back, so their hilarious partnership continues! But Boyega definitely steals the show. Like his father, Jake becomes a leader among men, and I CANNOT wait to see more.
