Ava DuVernay and A Wrinkle in Time cast debuted the first trailer at today’s D23 Expo! Watch here, plus see new images from the panel and film.
The D23 Official Disney Fan Club is hosting their annual D23 Expo, currently underway in Anaheim, California. At this convention, Disney takes the opportunity to share exclusive sneak peeks of upcoming films from Walt Disney Studios and features celebrity appearances and unforgettable presentations.
Today Walt Disney Studios made the presentation of their live action films, starting with Ava DuVernay’s highly anticipated blockbuster A Wrinkle in Time. This is an adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 novel of the same name. DuVernay was joined by cast members Storm Reid (Meg Murray), Oprah Winfrey (Mrs. Which), Reese Witherspoon (Mrs. Whatsit), Mindy Kaling (Mrs. Who), and Chris Pine (Mr. Murry).
Together they debuted the first teaser trailer for A Wrinkle in Time, as well as a new poster. This was a particularly exciting moment with Oprah using her “You get a car!” voice to distribute the film posters to the audience.
According to Entertainment Weekly:
Disney’s upcoming fantasy epic about an ordinary teenager named Meg (newcomer Storm Reid) who’s whisked on a cosmic adventure [with her brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) and their friend Calvin (Levi Miller)] to find her missing scientist father (Chris Pine) with the help of three chimerical celestial beings who help her “wrinkle” time and space: philosophizing Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), inquisitive Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), and wizened Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey).
In the trailer (below) we meet Meg and watch her embark on an inter-dimensional journey to save her family and the world, all with the help of her three guides:
“Be a warrior!”
“I’ll try.”
Full disclosure, I haven’t read the book, but I promise to correct that mistake before the film comes out in March. Still, I think this movie is visually stunning. I can’t wait to see the totality of the universes Ava DuVernay has created for us.
The mentorship/relationship between Meg and Mrs. Which also stands out to me. Also, an we talk about how Bellamy Young AKA Scandal’s Mellie Grant shows up at 1:16. She’s lovely, but a little creepy too, no?
