We’re incredible excited about Charlie Hunnam’s upcoming film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and judging from the latest trailer, it’s going to be action-packed and super

Earlier this week, Hunnam sat down with Entertainment Weekly for a Facebook Live interview to talk about this project and more.

Charlie begins the interview by acknowledging the potential difficulty in retelling an iconic story that has already been told so many times in so many ways. But he confirms that Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur is more gritty. In this new version of the origin story, Arthur is a street kid in Londinium, very selfish, out to make money, with no noble aspirations, and in Charlie’s own words “a motherfucker”.

In Legend of the Sword, we watch Arthur experience the very human attempt to overcome his personal demons and fears in the face of a new, overwhelming destiny.

Charlie also talks about how this film was the first project he did after Sons of Anarchy ended, so he was looking for a bit of a departure from Jax Teller. With that said, he acknowledges inherent similarities between these two characters.

When asked about Kurt Sutter’s upcoming spin-off series, Mayans MC, Charlie has only positive things to say:

“I obviously got to know very, very well the world of California motorcycle clubs and I just think it’s a very rich, vital, exciting world… I think that the idea is that they’re going to focus on Mayans, so it’s exciting. I’ll certainly be tuning in.”

You can watch the full interview below, which includes Hunnam answering fan questions about shooting fight scenes, working with Guy Ritchie, and his dream role:

We're LIVE with Charlie Hunnam, star of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, in theaters May 12.

Posted by Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday, February 21, 2017

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword hits theaters on May 12, 2017.

Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne.

When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.

Starring with Hunnam (FX’s “Sons of Anarchy”) and Oscar nominee Law (“Cold Mountain,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley”) are Astrid Bergès-Frisbey (“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”) as Mage; Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond,” “In America”) as Bedivere; Aidan Gillen (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) as Goosefat Bill; and Eric Bana (“Star Trek”) as Arthur’s father, King Uther Pendragon.
