Season six of The Walking Dead was traumatic to say the least, but we all know it’s going to get so much worse in the premiere on October 23rd.

In advance of the premiere, AMC will be airing a marathon of the entire series as well as a retrospective. The retrospective will include exclusive interviews with the cast and crew about the journey these characters have taken over the last six seasons, ultimately leading up to the death of one or more characters in the season premiere. There will also be clips from pivotal scenes in series.

The official press release from AMC on the retrospective says:

“Season by season, from the moment Rick wakes up in the hospital (as told by Andrew Lincoln), all the way to the excruciating first swing of Negan’s bat (told by Jeffery Dean Morgan and others in the lineup), the story of “The Walking Dead” will be told by those who have lived it. “The Walking Dead: Journey So Far” gives viewers who have never seen an episode of “The Walking Dead” a chance to get all caught up on the plot, characters, locations, and unique terminology of the series as well as providing fans who‘ve never missed a moment with fresh interviews with the series’ producers and their favorite actors as part of an exciting refresher course that will further whet their appetite for the new season.” [Source: Entertainment Weekly]

Honestly, I’m both nervous and excited to go into this season. We’ve seen Rick at his most self-righteous last season only to realize that he’s not ready to face the true evils of the world. That carelessness is going to get someone killed, and this season will showcase how the group copes with that and faces Negan head on.

We also have the introduction of Ezekiel. This character hasn’t been nearly as hyped as Negan, but he could prove to be an invaluable ally to Team Family. Plus, he has a tiger. I mean, c’mon now.

Keep in mind, this premiere isn’t going to be for the faint of heart. If you’ve watched from the beginning or even binge watched and picked up watching in real time during a later season (like me), we’ve grown attached to these characters. We have witnessed their losses and triumphs, and the heart of the matter is that one (or more) won’t be around after 7.1.

Like Jesus said last season, our “world’s about to get a whole lot bigger.” And it looks like Negan is the man pulling all the strings.

Another huge announcement was dropped last week that the title of the first episode of the seventh season will be “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be”. Guys, this is a direct nod to season one. Remember when Rick thanked Jenner for letting them out of the CDC?

“I’m grateful.”

“The day will come when you won’t be.”

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that attention to detail from the writers of this show. It’s giving me chills just thinking about it. Then there’s this clip from the premiere. This is going to get really bad.

Tune in tomorrow night at 10/9c for The Walking Dead: Journey So Far to prepare yourself for next Sunday when the season premiere airs at 9/8c!
