This week brought fans lots of Outlander developments, including casting news (adult Fergus!) plus the first images and cast/creator interviews from Season 3. Also, Diana Gabaldon shares a new excerpt from Book 9!
Sassenachs, this past week was a REALLY good one to be an Outlander fan, for so many reasons.
Life if busy, so you might not have had a chance to see all the amazing news, so we’ve got the highlights of the most recent Outlander developments here for you. And if you’ve been staying on top of things, there’s nothing wrong with taking another opportunity to flail!
First, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have a FIRST LOOK at Outlander’s upcoming third season, and some pretty shocking details. Sam Heughan is looking *so* JAMMF-y on EW’s latest cover.

According to part of the interview with Ron Moore, Season 3 will begin with the Battle of Culloden and another epic face-off between Jamie and Black Jack Randall. Those of us familiar with the book know that when we catch up with Jamie, he has no recollection of battle…
“It just felt like for the TV show, we’ve been promising this for a while and it just felt like we should have something,” executive producer Ronald D. Moore tells EW of the conflict that was first teased in the season 2 finale between the French-backed highlanders and the British army. “We should give the audience some sense of what happened on that moor.”
…
“We’re playing it out more,” promises Moore, who says the epic shoot in Scotland in August was “easily one of our biggest set pieces.”
The new images also include a glimpse of the battle and it looks pretty scary and violent. I don’t know how much we’ll actually get to see, but one thing we can anticipate is that, as Claire “foretells”, BJR won’t make it off the moor alive.

EW also revealed that adult Fergus Fraser has also been cast. Actor César Domboy (The Walk) will be taking over the role from Romann Berrux (though it’s likely that we’ll see some of Wee Fergus as we follow Jamie over the 20 years he spends apart from Claire.
Born into a brothel, Fergus has grown up into a charming, devilishly handsome man with a strong sense of loyalty and decorum, despite his unconventional upbringing. He is the ultimate romantic, wearing his heart on his sleeve and falling in and out of love easily. However, Fergus’ devotion to Jamie has never wavered, making the Frenchman an integral part of the Fraser clan. Still, his debonair demeanor masks a longing for a lasting love and a permanent sense of belonging.

Finally, Diana Gabaldon also shared an exclusive excerpt of Outlander book 9 Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone!
The excerpt, which you can read HERE, is a moment between Jamie and Claire where they reflect on their at The Abbey of Ste. Anne de Beaupré, where Claire and Murtagh brought Jamie to recuperate after this assault at the hands of Black Jack at Wentworth Prison. After Jamie and Claire reconnect, this is likely the place where their first daughter, Faith, was conceived.
A longer, exclusive excerpt will be included in Amazon’s Outlander Season 2 Collector’s Edition, out on November 1. For more details and to pre-order, go HERE.
