At Comic-Con, we chatted with Danielle Panabaker about Caitlin Snow, from romance in Flashpoint to potentially learning Caitlin’s backstory. Watch now!
Fellow The Flash fans, I think we can agree that Dr. Caitlin Snow has had a pretty rough two seasons—from losing the love of her life, Ronnie, not once, but twice; then, finding love again with Jay Garrick, only to find he is the sociopath Hunter Zolomon/Zoom.
And we haven’t really delved into Caitlin’s backstory, including watching her father die from Multiple Sclerosis and a potentially abusive relationship with her mother.
Even more interesting, Caitlin’s Earth-2 doppelgänger Killer Frost, seems to have experienced similar trauma… that is until she’s viciously killed by Zoom *sigh*
I know many of us are concerned about the impending changes as a result of Flashpoint, but is it too much to hope that Caitlin might find some happiness?
At this year’s SDCC, I had a chance to ask Danielle Panabaker these exact questions, and she had a lot to say!
When did you find out Jay = Zoom? Will Caitlin ever find romance?
Interestingly, Danielle tells us that she found out about the plan for Jay/Zoom early on, like six weeks before Season 2 started filming. WOW. In terms of Cailin’s love life, while Danielle did pitch for Caitlin and Ronnie to be happily married in Flashpoint, she isn’t sure if Caitlin necessarily needs a man. We know that she’s capable of being her own hero.
What do you like most about playing Caitlin? Any chance we’ll learn more about her family?
Danielle says that it’s Caitlin’s vulnerability that draws her to the character. And YES, she would love for the show to explore Caitlin’s relationship with her mother.
Incidentally, we just learned this week that Susan Walters (AKA Tyler Lockwood’s mom from The Vampire Diaries and Lydia Martin’s mom from Teen Wolf) has been cast as Caitlin’s mom:
Dr. Carla Tannhauser is a world class biomedical engineer and CEO of a major research company. But while Caitlin may have inherited her mother’s formidable scientific mind, the two have long had a difficult relationship, with Caitlin finding her mother cold and withholding, and Carla regarding her daughter as rebellious and ungrateful. What will Star Labs be like in Flashpoint? Any chance Caitlin will interact with other DCTV characters?
According to Danielle, “Who says there’s a Star Labs?” Whattttttt? So things are going to be SO different. Danielle also says she’d love to work with the super strong women of Supergirl.
How would you describe Caitlin’s relationship with Barry? Is there any potential for romance?
Danielle says that Caitlin has a very special bond with Barry, especially since she’s experienced many of the losses he has, which makes Caitlin very empathetic.
I’m still not over Danielle’s “who says there’s a Star Labs” comment! It’s quite possible that Caitlin, Barry, Cisco, and Harrison Wells don’t even know each other.
Flashpoint will really be something to see!
