Sassenachs, if you’re like me, every Saturday when we sit down to watch (and live tweet) the new Outlander, by the time we get to the end of the episode, I’m always desperate for more! Especially during this current season, I’ve found myself wishing that we could have two-hour episodes because I’m never ready to leave this world!

Well, Team Outlander has heard our wishes. Today STARZ announced that the Season 2 finale, “Dragonfly in Amber” (namesake of the second book in the Outlander series), will be an special, extended 90-minute episode! The finale will air on Saturday, July 9 at 9:00pm ET|PT.

Leading up to the finale, on Saturday, July 2 starting at 12:00pm ET|PT, STARZ will show a marathon featuring the first 12 episodes of Season 2. Fans will have a chance to relive the amazing (and heartbreaking) moments so far and get ready for the mega-finale the following week.

We also have the official synopsis and details about the finale episode to share, but before you read on, I’m giving you a big ***SPOILER ALERT***

OK! STARZ has revealed that in the finale, we’ll finally meet the highly-anticipated characters, Brianna/Bree (Sophie Skelton) and Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin). Yes, we’ve already seen Bree and Roger as kids (in “Faith” and “Through a Glass, Darkly“), but “Dragonfly in Amber” (written by Toni Graphia and Matthew B. Roberts, directed by Philip John) will fast-forward to 1968 with both characters as adults. Read the synopsis below:

Flashing forward to 1968, Claire travels to Scotland with her twenty-year-old daughter, Brianna, and meets Roger Wakefield. Claire visits Lallybroch and Culloden Moor to make peace with the past, while Brianna and Roger bond over researching Randall family history. Claire finally reveals the truth to Brianna about her time travel through the stones, her life in 1700’s Scotland, and Brianna’s true parentage. The story is intercut with another one back in the 18th century, which happens on the day of the Battle of Culloden. When Jamie’s last ditch attempts to deter The Prince fail, he and Claire come up with a dangerous plan – which Dougal overhears, inciting him to a murderous rage. Jamie must do everything he can to save the ones he loves, even if it means saying goodbye to some–or all–of them.

So like the first episode in Season 2, we’ll spend time with Claire in her past and present. Given “Through a Glass, Darkly” we know that Claire comes back through the stones and she’s just devastated. And in the finale, we’ll see the events that culminate in Jamie’s decision to send Claire back and her decision to go.

I’m not at all ready for the heartbreak. NOPE. However, I am eager for Bree and Roger to meet and for Claire to share her truth with them. Yes, we’re definitely going to need 90 minutes for this!

Share your thoughts with us in comments and make sure to come back this Wednesday for a preview of Saturday’s episode “Prestonpans”.
