STARZ announces that Outlander will be back for TWO more seasons, based on Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling novels Voyager and Drums of Autumn.

Happy World Outlander Day Sassenachs! 25 years ago today, Diana Gabaldon published the first book in the series (in the USA) and brought Jamie and Claire to us all…25 years of adventures, intense drama, heartbreak, and SO much love!
The great thing is that, thanks to the STARZ TV series, a new set of fans have been introduced to Jamie and Claire’s story. I started reading Outlander (the novel) after I watched the premiere episode of the TV show back in July 2014. Today, I’m working my way through Book 7 (An Echo in the Bone), live tweeting and recapping Season 2 every week, and generally LOVING the Sassenach fandom experience.
Besides being a great time to reflect on this phenomenal series that Diana gave us, STARZ has made today even more special by announcing that Outlander has been renewed for not one, but TWO more seasons! While Season 3 (“Book Three”) will be based on Voyager, the third novel in the series, Season 4 (“Book Four”) will follow the fourth novel, Drums of Autumn.

According to Chris Albrecht, STARZ’s CEO:
Outlander is like nothing seen before on television. From its depiction of a truly powerful female lead character, to the devastating decimation of the Highlander way of life, to what is a rarely seen genuine and timeless love story, it is a show that not only transports the viewer, but inspires the passion and admiration of its fans. On this 25th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the U.S., we are thrilled and honored to be able to continue the story that began with author Diana Gabaldon, and is brought to life by the incredibly talented Ronald D. Moore. There are no better storytellers for Outlander than this team, both in front and behind the camera.
Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, Presidents of U.S. Programming and Production, Sony Pictures Television, shared the excitement:
The world of Jamie and Claire is expansive and emotionally complex. The audience has rewarded Outlander with their praise and loyalty, and we know we will deliver the best seasons yet in the years ahead. Starz has been an incredible partner and has truly helped shape this into one of the most iconic premiere series on the air today.
I couldn’t agree more!
Those of us who have read the books already know that Jamie and Claire’s exploits will take us across time and space to new, unexpected locales and experiences. I wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t say that I’m a little nervous about the potential portrayal of some plot developments and historical events… however, Ron Moore and his team haven’t failed us, thus far, so I choose to be optimistic.
In the mean time, join us every Saturday to live tweeting Outlander Season 2, and continue stay tuned to We So Nerdy for your Outlander news, recaps, previews, flails, and feels!
