PREVIEW: ‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 5, Episode 13 “Labor of Love”

March 13, 2016 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Killian is trapped in Hades’ prison, but the Heroes get help from familiar friends to save him! Get a sneak peek of tonight’s Once Upon a Time, airing at 8:00pm ET|PT on ABC.

Last week’s Once Upon a Time was the 100th episode, and from the very beginning, it is such a treat for loyal Oncers!

“Souls of the Departed” begins with a lovely reunion between Emma and Neal. Even though it turns out to be a dream (maybe), Neal issues a warning about the Underworld being a very dangerous place and a difficult dimension to escape from. Thankfully we learn that Neal won’t be there: “The Underworld is for people with unfinished business, and that isn’t me.”
So even though we miss Neal, it’s great to learn that, wherever he is, he is at peace and happy!

Of course the Heroes continue their journey and end up in a place the looks eerily like Storybrooke, a twisted, bizarro version of the town we love. (That’s because whoever created the Dark Curse got the inspiration for Storybrooke from the Underworld!) From the time they arrive, each person has a potentially harrowing encounter with a past villain:

  • James, David’s not nice twin brother, tricks Snow into kissing him.
  • Peter Pan, the proprietor of the Underworld’s version of Mr. Gold’s Shop, confronts Rumple and tries to convince him to help Pan trade places with a living soul, so he can be free.
  • Cora threatens Regina’s father (Henry Sr.) with eternal torture if she refuses to leave the Underworld ASAP.

All the while, Cruella is driving around, just waiting to pounce.
And sadly, the only glimpse we get on Killian is of him looking bloody, beaten, and tortured! *CRIES*

At the same time, there’s a really lovely story with Regina being able to reconcile with her dad. The meeting between Henry Sr. and Young Henry…
“Thank you grandpa, for believing in her, like I do.”
“Thank you Henry, for being there when I couldn’t.” *SOBBING*

Despite the danger, Operation Firebird to save Killian is in full effect…
…but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be an easy ride. Hades (guest-star Greg Germann) is determined to get the Heroes out of his domain. Remember how Emma’s arrival in Storybrooke in season 1 triggered the clock tower to start working? Well, the same thing happens when the Heroes arrive in the Underworld. Each clock tick means a soul has their unfinished business wrapped up and has left Hades’ domain. Truth be told, for a lot of folks in the Underworld, the Heroes are the source of that unfinished business! So no, Hades will NOT be our friend.

Tonight’s episode “Labor of Love” (written by Andrew Chambliss and Dana Horgan, directed by Billy Gierhart) introduces us to two other important inhabitants of the Underworld, Hercules (Jonathan Whitesell) and Megara (Kacey Rohl):

MARY MARARET ENLISTS THE HELP FROM A CHILDHOOD HERO TO SAVE HOOK’S LIFE—In the Underworld, an escapee from Hades’ prison informs the heroes that Hook is being held captive. But before the heroes can rescue Hook, they must face a terrifying beast that guards the prison. Mary Margaret searches for an old childhood friend who knows how to defeat the monster. However, once reunited, she discovers that her friend is no longer the hero he once was. Meanwhile, in an Enchanted Forest flashback, a young Snow White struggles to preserve peace in her kingdom and must learn how to be a true hero if she wants to one day become queen. (via ABC)

Watch two clips from the upcoming show. In the first, Snow tells Charming about her history with Hercules, who is in the Underworld. Would he be willing to help them find Killian?
And in the second clip, we finally hear from Killian, who helps a fellow captive escape from Hades’ prison with a promise to find Emma and tell her where he is:

Was that “hell beast” Cerberus, Hades’ three-headed dog?! Oh my… well, in Greek mythology, Hercules does defeat Cerberus, so there’s some hope for us!

Check out 12 stills from “Labour of Love” and remember to tune into ABC at 8:00pm ET|PT tonight for the new Once Upon a Time! I’ll be live tweeting (@WeSoNerdy)!
