BOOK REVIEW: ‘Pucked Over’ by Helena Hunting—4.5 STARS

January 26, 2016 By Katie 2 Comments

Pucked Over is the third novel in the Pucked series by Helena Hunting. It’s hilarious, filled with steamy scenes, and a lead that’s going to be your new book boyfriend. A definite ONE CLICK buy!

[Some Spoilers; Mature Audiences]

Pucked Over

Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

Pucked Over is Randy Ballistic and Lily LeBlanc’s story. We first met them in Pucked Up when Randy busts into the bathroom on Lily who is naked and shaving her legs. Embarrassment ensues but as Randy sticks around through the weekend, he proves to be more than a pretty face by standing up for Lily when her newly ex-boyfriend proves to be a royal dick.

From there, their relationship or non-relationship moves forward. Randy’s not a relationship guy, and Lily’s on the rebound. It’s the perfect setup, but even the best laid <gigglesnort> plans go awry when feelings start developing on both sides.

I like that she’s my kind of crazy.

Pucked Over is my absolute FAVORITE book of the Pucked series. I always thought there was more to Randy than met the eye. He didn’t seem as caught up with the puck bunnies or nearly as obvious about it when he did. Granted, he had his fair share of fun and there’s a Facebook group dedicated to his “rejects”. When he meets Lily, he’s instantly intrigued by her. Plus, she’s just broke up with her boyfriend of seven years, and it’s the perfect opportunity to be the rebound guy and have some fun.

Lily has never done casual sex, but she’s willing to try for Randy. He’s ripped, tattooed, and the little man bun that she shouldn’t find attractive but really does sets the whole thing off for her. He’s also so nice, and she doesn’t mind being around him after all the awkwardness of their first weekend/meeting wears off.

What follows is pure flirtatious, smutty goodness!

Randy and Lily text periodically, mostly to set up a get together while he’s in Toronto or she’s in Chicago. They try so hard to keep their relationship casual, but soon, they’re texting more. They’re talking more. Lily drives into Toronto, knowing she only has five hours to spend with him before she has to get back home.

Randy shows up unexpectedly at her job (teaching ice skating at a rink in Guelph) when she can’t come to Toronto for a game. Their meet ups will leave you breathless each and every time!

All the while, their feelings are growing and changing, but neither one admits it to the other because they don’t want it to end. After all, Randy told her early on that if it got too serious, all she had to do was say the word and they’d end it.

Lily knows her feelings have changed, and with a simple video message, she starts to think Randy might be on the same page, too. My heart grew three sizes like I was the Grinch when I read this scene.

With his eyes still on the camera, he drags a fingertip down my cheek. “Lily, Lily, Lily, wake up for me.”

I moan in my sleep, but lift my head toward his voice.

“Come on, baby, open your eyes for me.”

I watch my lids flutter, another soft sound escaping. Randy’s not looking at the camera any more, he’s focused on me. “There you are. Didn’t I tell you? No time for sleeping tonight.”

“No time,” I murmur.

“That’s right. Where am I supposed to be right now?” His voice is whisper quiet, his chest rising and falling faster as I lift my head, blinking blearily up at him.

My lips curve into a coy smile. “Inside me.”

The video goes blurry when his mouth finds mine.

The course of true love never did run smooth, so of course there are some bumps along the way.

Randy slips and his behavior isn’t the best with the puck bunnies that hang around, but he never sleeps with anyone else. In fact, Randy has been completely monogamous with Lily since their very first weekend together where he stumbled in on her in the bathroom. It’s unheard of for him, but the other women that hang around don’t hold any appeal anymore. He only wants Lily.

I also LOVE how Lily doesn’t have second thoughts about her break up with her ex, Benji. She realizes he’s a complete jerk and that she only stayed with him because he was safe and she was used to him. That’s when Lily understands that she’s done everything in life that’s safe because she’s afraid of change. This prompts her to spend time helping her bestie, Sunny, move into her new home in Chicago and spend an amazing week with Randy.

It’s also then that she comes to terms with the fact that she’s in love with him, and she has to tell him. She’s moving to Chicago and there’s no way she can maintain that distance of casual sex if she’s around him even more.

“I can’t move here and do this casual thing with you.”

“Why not?”

It’s not just about the sex for me anymore.”

Can they get on the same page or will Randy’s “no relationships” policy put an end to them for good? This addition to the series is funny and heartfelt. The romance is outstanding and the sex scenes are phenomenal! This one isn’t as over-the-top as the other two in the series, which is probably why I love it so much.

You will never regret reading this one!
