FIRST LOOK: New FOX Show SECOND CHANCE Premieres Jan. 13 at 9/8c

January 7, 2016 By T.J. 1 Comment

Get your first look at SECOND CHANCE, a new action-drama premiering on FOX on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 9/8c.

“What would you do with a second chance? Before you answer, let me give you some advice. Second chances can be a real monster.” This is the opening statement presented to viewers at the beginning of the SECOND CHANCE premiere, and it is a doozy of a question that opens a series that I am excited to watch.

Executive Producer/writer Rand Ravich who created hit dramas Crisis and Life along with Emmy Award-winning executive producer Howard Gordon who was responsible for fan favorites 24, Homeland, and The X-Files brings us SECOND CHANCE, a new action-drama premiering on January 13 at 9/8c on FOX about a man who is brought back to life by scientists who decide to play god in the hope of saving their lives. The man chosen to help scientists and tech moguls Mary Goodwin (Dilshad Vadsaria) and Otto Goodwin (Adhir Kalyan) in their task to help save Mary’s life from terminal cancer is disgraced seventy-five-year-old, former sheriff Jimmy Pritchard (guest star Philip Baker Hall). Jimmy accidentally stumbles into a criminal plot that costs him his life. However, this moment provides Mary and Otto the opportunity to give Jimmy a second chance at life in the resurrected, genetically modified body with extreme physical abilities. Re-animated Jimmy Pritchard is portrayed by EastEnders and True Blood alum Rob Kazinsky. Not only does Jimmy get a second chance to live again with all the memories of his life, but maybe this time around he can be the father he wanted to be to this two children, FBI Agent Duval Pritchard and Helen. Duval, portrayed by White Collar alum Tim DeKay, follows in his father’s law enforcement footsteps, but chooses his path to be a one that adheres to each letter of the law and be a present father to his daughter Gracie (Ciara Bravo). While his younger sister Helen (Amanda Detmer) apparently has picked up Jimmy’s love of adult beverages.

FOX provided many of us an online sneak peek at the premiere of SECOND CHANCE, titled “A Suitable Donor”. In the first episode we are introduced to the entire main cast of characters: Jimmy Pritchard (original and reanimated), Duval Pritchard, Mary Goodwin, Otto Goodwin, Gracie Pritchard, and Mary’s assistant Alexa (Vanessa Lengies). “A Suitable Donor” throws a lot of information at the audience, but in an efficient and thought provoking manner. It makes the audience ponder how would they respond if given a second chance at life without their consent? Would they immediately try to fix the wrongs that happened to them or the ones that they caused? Or would they rebel against those who provided this opportunity? We see Jimmy make these decisions along with the strained relationship between him and Duval and how that is counter against the co-dependent relationship between twins Mary and Otto. And even though Jimmy is given a second chance he battles with old demons in his quest to fix the recent events. SECOND CHANCE is a modern day Frankenstein with a bit more heart and more action and science!

The trailer (and premiere episode) is everything and we look forward to live tweeting the premiere of SECOND CHANCE next week, not only because our love for science fiction and redemption stories are strong, but because the cast is quite diverse. The location backdrops seen in the “A Suitable Donor” were spectacular and the soundtrack selections of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon Rising” and Whitehorse’s “No Glamour In The Hammer” have us excited for whatever else SECOND CHANCE will bring us, and have us question about the world that was created in this new fictional series.

Make sure to join us on Twitter when we live tweet the SECOND CHANCE premiere on the evening of Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 9/8c! Until then ask yourself what would you do with a second chance at life with your memories intact and superhuman abilities, and make sure to share your answers in the comments below.
