VIDEO/PHOTOS: Preview ‘Blindspot’ Season 1, Episode 9 “Authentic Flirt”

November 16, 2015 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Jane and Weller are going undercover and get all 007/dolled-up to do so! Get a sneak peek of tonight’s Blindspot, airing at 10:00pm ET|PT on NBC.

Last week’s Blindspot (“Persecute Envoys”) began with a flashback to five years, where Mayfair (then deputy assistant to the FBI director) met with Tom Carter (then deputy executive director of the CIA, and Sophia Varma (deputy White House political director). They were called together by the White House Chief of Staff (Mr. Davenport) about Daylight.

Daylight was built on an operation where the NSA spent years (illegally) gathering intel on American citizens. The White House expected these agencies to find creative ways to use that information to take down various bad guys. For Mayfair, Saul Guererro was her way of laundering the NSA’s illegal intel so the FBI could act on it. (This is why Saul Guererro had no idea who she was at the end of “Sent on a Tour”—he had never met Mayfair!)

At first, after meeting with Davenport, Mayfair was scandalized. She couldn’t be a part of Daylight and if the public ever found out about the extent of NSA surveillance, there would be hell to pay for the invasion of privacy. However, Carter and Sophia were able to convince her that this was needed to win the War on Terror. Over time, Mayfair and Sophia became romantically involved. Things deteriorated with Douglas Winter (a former NSA employee) blew the whistle on NSA surveillance and Carter, Sophia, and Mayfair needed to cover their tracks regarding Daylight (especially since the White House was denying any knowledge).

Sophia was feeling a lot of guilt with using the information and wanted to move to Hong Kong with Mayfair. However Mayfair couldn’t abandon ship. If they left and everything fell apart, who would be there to clean up the mess? They ended up splitting up, and Mayfair believed Sophia had committed suicide (it looked like it was possible she was still alive though!)

In the present, Mayfair recounted much of this to Weller, trying to convince him that Daylight was necessary at the time to put some very bad people away. However, Weller wasn’t convinced. He was upset and incredibly angry that his mentor would do something so wrong.

Elsewhere, the case of the week dealt with finding a cop-killer that was murdering NYPD officers, execution-style. Patterson believed that these killings were motivated by vengeance for a case when last year, an unarmed black teenager was shot by a Brooklyn officer in a supermarket parking lot. Now, two of the police officers that were present at the scene (Schultz and Garrigan) were targeted and murdered. Mayfair and Weller’s team were called in to take over the investigation to track down the perpetrator.

They started with Officer Tracy Dunn, Schultz’s partner, and she expressed shock at the events. With encouragement from Zapata (a former NYPD officer herself), she was able to learn that over the last few weeks Schultz was distracted. Dunn also shared that all the officers were wearing body cameras, and once Team Weller got ahold of the footage, we saw that Schultz had been accosted by Ricky Holt, a former pro-football player. It turned out that Ricky Holt was being blackmailed for $50,000 every month, money in exchange for keeping quiet about photos of Ricky having sex with a man. There was some serious corruption in the 65th Precinct, whereby officers were accessing the images from their body-cam film archives to extort people. In the midst of all this, Officer Dunn was shot dead.

We learned that Schultz had been about to contact Internal Affairs about the extortion and was killed before he could do so. Unfortunately, Garrigan and Dunn were killed too as part of the clean up. So who was the culprit? Patterson learned that Officers Costello and Johnson were responsible and laundering the money. Weller and Jane were able to track them down Schultz’s house before they could hurt Mrs. Schultz. Despite Johnson using a stun grenade, Weller and Jane were able to get things under control (how great was it that Weller pushed Jane out of the house so she wouldn’t be harmed by the grenade?! *JELLER FEELS*)

We also found out that the precinct Captain was also in on the blackmailing scheme! While he and Mayfair were driving to the hospital to see Costello, the Captain pulled a gun on Mayfair. But, in a bold move, she crashed the SUV and knocked him out.

In the end, Weller (with encouragement from Jane) talked to Mayfair about Daylight. She apologized for putting Weller in this position. And he was concerned for her—what happened if the people who designed Jane’s tattoos came after her? Jane, Zapata, and Patterson went out for drinks (GIRLS NIGHT), Weller commiserated with his father. Finally, Carter confronted Zapata, saying that he would need more help from her to find the truth about Jane. Now that Zapata had taken his money, she would have no way out.

Tonight’s episode, “Authentic Flirt” was written by Katherine Collins and directed by David McWhirter. Take a look at the synopsis below:

JANE AND WELLER GO UNDERCOVER TO PREVENT LETHAL INFORMATION FROM GETTING INTO THE WRONG HANDS—Jane and Weller go undercover as a world-class assassin couple to prevent deadly information from getting into the wrong hands. The intimate assignment draws them closer than ever. Meanwhile, David (guest star Joe Dinicol) embarks on a solo mission to win Patterson back, and Carter (guest star Michael Gaston) clashes with Mayfair over how to handle a dangerous individual. (via NBC)

I am SO here to Jane/Weller pseudo-date night! And truth be told I feel so much ambivalence towards Cutie Boyfriend David. He seems really sweet and helpful…but a little TOO helpful when it comes to trying to decipher Jane’s tattoos, know what I mean?

In the sneak peek for tonight’s episode we see David trying to win Patterson back by appealing to her love of all things esoteric and puzzle-y. Check it out (courtesy of NBC via TV Guide):

I’m madly in love with you…

*SWOONY SIGH* how can Patterson resist? I applaud her for putting herself and her commitment to work first. But goodness, David is compelling, and I doubt he’s done trying to convince Patterson to take him back. But can we trust him??? What do you think?
