While Alex scrambles to discover who the real terrorist is, we learn more about her time at the FBI Academy. Watch a sneak peek of tonight’s Quantico, airing at 10:00pmET|PT on ABC.
Last week’s Quantico premiere established the foundation for the season, and it was pretty clear from the beginning that NO ONE can be trusted.
“Run” began with us witnessing the aftermath of a massive explosion, and Alex Parrish was lying in the rubble.
We immediately flashed back nine months to the secondary timeline, with Alex preparing to take a trip. And contrary to what her mom believed, Alex would be flying to Washington D.C. During the flight, she met Ryan Booth, who she then hooked up with in his car. However, neither were very honest with each other. Alex told him that she was heading to Chile for Doctors Without Borders; Ryan told her that he was returning home from the Phillipines. Yet both ended up in a lecture hall, sitting across from each other at the FBI Academy. We were then introduced to Alex and Ryan’s classmates, coming to Quantico from all walks of life, and all harboring some big secrets.
Orientation began, with Assistant Director Miranda Shaw and Agent Liam O’Connor taking charge of educating the new agent trainee (NAT). The recruits got their uniforms, gear, and credentials, then training and qualification tests began. They got their first assignment, which was to investigate a fellow trainee and figure out a missing piece of evidence from their file. In the process we learned a lot about the NATs.
Alex’s father was shot and killed during a violent argument with her mother.
Shelby Wyatt, a sharp-shooting Georgian, lost her parents in 9/11 and carried a piece of the plane with her as a reminder.
Simon Asher, a C.P.A. and the FBI’s first openly gay recruit seemed pretty taken with Nimah Amin (a devout Muslim woman) and eager for her friendship. She was able to find out that even though Simon was from a staunchly Zionist family, he’d secretly spent time in Gaza/Palestine.
But Nimah also had some secrets…SHE WAS A TWIN, and both sisters were switching on and off. Apparently Miranda Shaw knew about it.
Eric Packer a well-travelled Mormon had a particularly interesting story. While in Malawi, he had a sexual relationship with a teenage girl. When she got pregnant, he forced her to have an abortion, when she died. The fear that his classmate, Caleb Haas, had discovered the truth drove Eric to take his own life (shooting himself with a gun he didn’t turn in after training exercises).
As far as Caleb, he was a pretty dismal recruit, and we learned that both his parents were agents, and pulled strings to get him into Quantico. After the Eric situation, he was asked to leave the academy.
Motivated by the need to be honest, Alex confided in Liam about the truth behind her father’s death. He was an FBI agent too, and it wasn’t her mother that shot him; Alex did. She was at Quantico to find out who her father really was and she wanted Liam’s help. But Liam had secrets too…like he was ordering Ryan Booth, who was ALREADY AN FBI AGENT, to pretend to be a trainee and get close to Alex. What did Liam know?
In the present, we saw that Grand Central Terminal in NYC had just been bombed in the biggest terrorist attack since 9/11. Alex (an FBI agent herself) seemed to be the only person alive and was quickly taken in by the FBI. At headquarters, Alex learned that a tip had come in right before the explosion warning them that it was an inside job. One of Alex’s classmates at Quantico was the terrorist. Now they needed her to help them figure out who it could be…or so they said. Alex told them about her time at the FBI Academy, but it was just a stalling tactic. Liam was now the Assistant Director and was leading the investigation into Alex. When the police arrived at her apartment they found bomb making materials and Ryan Booth lying in a pool of blood.
As Alex was arrested she pleaded to Liam for help, denying that she was the terrorist. She was taken to the transport van and headed to jail…except Miranda was the driver! She believed Alex was innocent and planned to help her escape. It would be up to Alex to research her classmates and find out who the terrorist really was.
In tonight’s episode “America”, written by Joshua Safran and directed by Stephen Kay:
Alex is on the run and must outsmart Liam and his team to get into her apartment for anything that could help clear her name. Meanwhile, in a flashback to Quantico training, the NATS are tasked with finding a needle in a haystack while looking for potential threats to national security. (via ABC)
Take a look at this sneak peek from the upcoming show where Alex is able to confront Liam about why he believes she’s guilty:
So Ryan is alive…that’s good news, right? In any event, i don’t trust Liam as far as I can throw him. What do you think of the show? Do you have any ideas about who might be the terrorist?
Quantico airs at 10:00pm ET|PT on ABC, so make sure to watch and live tweet America with us!
