Will the Evos continue to fall or rise to challenge? Tonight at 8/7 c, watch the latest episode of Heroes Reborn, airing on NBC. We have your video sneak peek of episode 3, “Under the Mask”, plus a recap of last week’s two-part season premiere episode.
Heroes Reborn premiered last week with a familiar concept: the world is full of humans with superpowers. In the Heroes universe, these super humans are not celebrated for their abilities because the perception is that they are freaks. And in Heroes Reborn, they are also Enemy #1.
Heroes Reborn re-introduced Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman) to audiences in a bittersweet scene that reminded us that everything he did was for his Claire Bear. (Hayden Panettiere) The look on Noah Bennet’s face after he listened to Claire’s voicemail message was endearing because it was a reminder that above all else, he was Claire’s father and whose true purpose in life was to keep her safe. And protection is a theme throughout the premiere episode, “Brave New World/Odessa”, as we are introduced to Tommy (Robbie Kay), an Evo teenager with a concerned mother who was trying to sneak him across the border to safety in Canada. Tommy’s superpower transports people to parts unknown. We also meet Carlos (Ryan Guzman), whose brother was the mysterious vigilante known as El Vengador. After his brother’s death, Carlos is confronted with the news that his brother was an Evo and the mastermind behind the EVO underground railroad. On the other side of the world, we met Miko (Kiki Sukezane), whose father designed a video game that Miko can enter as a character. The purpose of the game is unclear, but Miko’s ultimate task may be to save her father. And then there’s the mysterious Evo that I’ll call “Mr. Penny for Your Thoughts” (Pruitt Taylor Vince) until his true name and motivation is revealed.
The most interesting non-Evo characters are Luke (Zachary Levi) and Joanne (Judi Shekioni). Luke and Joanne are supposed to be a married couple but there doesn’t seem to be any love between them. Both seem unhappy with themselves and each other. Perhaps the only thing keeping them going is their shared goal of hunting and killing Evos. Early on, we get a brief glimpse showing audiences that they were happy once, but the death of their son in Odessa changed everything. And that, folks, brings us to Odessa. The events of Odessa, TX altered the course of Evo history. While exactly what happened in Odessa, TX, is unclear, we do know that there was a massive explosion that killed many and was labeled an Evo terrorist act. We’re also told that Claire died in that explosion…allegedly.
There is still much to learn about our Evos, and it’s clear that there is a mystery that has yet to be revealed. I mean “Monetize the Evos, Save the World” is a dramatically different spin on “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World.” Does this mean that this season’s “big bad” going to be a corporation? Obviously, there’s a lot left for us to find out.
Next up on Heroes Reborn is tonight’s episode, “Under the Mask”. Read on for the episode synopsis, followed by a short video showing Noah Bennet’s search for answers regarding his apparent role in the events that occurred in Odessa.
“MANY LEARN OF THEIR DESTINIES AS NEW FOES ARE REVEALED – DYLAN BRUCE, FRANCESCA EASTWOOD AND PRUITT TAYLOR VINCE GUEST STAR – Erica Kravid (Rya Khilstedt), the powerful woman behind the global conglomerate Renautas, reveals just how far she will go to protect the world from Evos. Tommy (Robbie Kay) finds comfort in sharing his ability with Emily (Gatlin Green) and a new-found popularity at school. In Japan, Miko’s (Kiki Sukezane) rescue mission comes up against some unexpected obstacles. Elsewhere, Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman) continues to work with Quentin (Henry Zeborwski) in his search for the truth and Malina (Danika Yarosh) is guided by an unseen force. Meanwhile, Luke (Zachary Levi) and Joanne (Judi Shekioni) continue on their deadly mission and Carlos’ (Ryan Guzman) search for answers causes him to dig deep to find the hero within. Eve Harlow, Cle Bennett, Toru Uchikado, Lucius Hoyos and Nazneen Contractor also guest star.”
