BREAKING: ‘Allegiant Part 2’ Film Gets New Name & Extended Plot

September 10, 2015 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

In an MTV exclusive, Lionsgate reveals the final two Divergent films will get unique names: The Divergent Series: Allegiant will be released March 2016 and The Divergent Series: Ascendant is coming March 2017.

Since we learned the movie adaptation of Allegiant would be split into two films, like fellow Initiates, I’ve been curious about what changes (if any) this might mean for story. This choice isn’t particularly odd—several of our other fave franchises like Twilight (Breaking Dawn Part 1 & Part 2) and The Hunger Games (Mockingjay Part 1 & Part 2) made similar decisions. But with an announcement earlier today, we learned that the final installment in the Divergent Series will be taking a slightly differnt route.

Via an MTV exclusive, Lionsgate shared that the last two Divergent films will be getting unique names. This upcoming March, The Divergent Series: Allegiant will be released, then in Spring 2017 the fourth installment The Divergent Series: Ascendant (NOT Allegiant Part 2) will bring us to our conclusion. According to MTV:

…the renamed “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” (notice the lack of “Part 1”) picks up on March 18, 2016; as Tris and Four head over the wall to discover what remains of the rest of the world.

Then the next year on March 24, 2017, the whole series comes to an explosive close with “The Divergent Series: Ascendant.” Both movies will be based on Veronica Roth’s best-selling novel “Allegiant,” but will also expand on the story in ways we can only guess at…

WOW…

Queen V, herself, commented on the name change in a blog post and expressed nerves, but also excitement:

What does this mean? Well, basically, it means there are going to be some changes, but it’s really too early to know exactly what those changes will be or the extent of them. I know changes always make fans of the books– and the author!– nervous, but hopefully the characters we know (and love. Or sometimes love to hate?) will still be intact, which is really the important thing. I am eager to see how these movies turn out, along with you guys.

MTV also revealed brand new logos and taglines*** for Allegiant and Ascendant, which you can see below:

This is definitely an innovative approach, and the promise of broadening the plot and the world we’ve all come to know and love sounds pretty exciting! It looks like we’re going to be breaking boundaries and getting some unexpected (but hopefully good) surprises.
