On Preacher, Jesse’s stuck with the Allfather, and Gran’ma calls in a favor from an old friend. Here’s our recap of “Tom/Brady”!
Y’all, it’s getting bad in the Preacher universe. In “Tom/Brady”, we find out the perfection combination of good and bad that hold in Genesis, and major screw-ups ensue everywhere else.
Let’s break it down here!
Cassidy
Cass and Eccarius are out having a drink and get an Uber back to the house. During the ride, Cass brings up Lisa. She hasn’t answered the phone yet, and he’s worried about her. Eccarius brushes him off and says it’s still early in Spain.
This is the first time Cassidy realizes something is up because he tells Eccarius that Lisa was supposed to be in Holland.
They make it home, and it turns out their driver was Hoover. He’s gearing up to go in and take them down. No doubt he wants to prove to Starr he can finish a job, but Eccarius, Cassidy, and all their followers surround the car and take Hoover hostage.
Inside, they take his phone and text Starr who tell them to go ahead and kill Hoover.
“He’s an idiot.”
Cassidy can’t believe that but starts taking suggestions on how they should kill Hoover. Eventually they decide on bees, but Eccarius steps in and says they should let Hoover decide if he wants to die or have eternal life.
Later that night, Cassidy turns Hoover into a vampire. The following morning, he heads for his flight with Eccarius, but something doesn’t go as planned…
Cassidy is cleaning up and takes a bag to the trash cans outside when he finds Lisa’s neck pillow in the trash. It’s bloody, and Cass knows what Eccarius is doing, so he goes to the garage and stops Eccarius just in time.
After calling him a murderer, Eccarius throws Cassidy against the wall and knocks him out, and Hoover runs out the side down to get away.
It turns out that Eccarius can fly and put people under his thrall because he’s been draining other vampires.
Will Eccarius kill Cassidy? When Cass wakes up, will he kill Eccarius or just walk away?
Jesse
Last we saw Jesse, Starr has a gun to his head and told him he’d need to kill Allfather if he wanted his soul. This is exactly where we find them at the start of “Tom/Brady”.
Jesse gets the gun from Starr and proceeds to beat the hell out of all the Grail guards. He then shoots Allfather in the chest after he tells Jesse that his soul is “in a safe place.”
It turns out that “safe space” is up his butt.
Jesse doesn’t get the opportunity to go through that horrifying process, because Allfather is so fat that the bulletwound is just a flesh wound, and he’s completely fine. More Grail guards descend on Jesse and take him prisoner.
Allfather tells Jesse his plan is to get Genesis out of him and into someone else as he’s shoveling down a huge bowl of chowmein.
Starr straps Jesse to an upright table and whispers that he’s planted a gun in his coat pocket. Jesse tells him this isn’t worth a damn because he can’t reach it! He wants Starr to take out of the gun and shoot Allfather, but Starr won’t do it.
After they hook Jesse up, Allfather tells him they’ll be using electricity to pull Genesis from his body and into someone else. In a room that attached to the tube connected to Jesse, Humperdoo is brought in.
They push the button and Genesis is sucked from Jesse and blasts into Humperdoo. A couple of seconds go by and he explodes. That doesn’t stop The Grail, though. Science has made it possible to clone Humperdoo, so they go through SO MANY versions of him getting blown to pieces and Genesis rushing back into Jesse before they stop for a moment.
Allfather asks if Jesse wants to know about the serum they’re using to try and make Humperdoo compatible with Genesis. He says no, but Starr slaps him and tells the Allfather to continue.
The doctor who is in charge explains that Genesis is made from the union between and angel and a demon, so the serum needs to put properties into Humperdoo that are the exact amounts of good and bad for it to survive.
That’s how it survives in Jesse. He has the right combination of good and bad.
Which begs the question why not just make a serum from Jesse, but okay, they wanted a quippy title.
Finally, they have the right combination: Tom/Brady.
It’s a combo of Thomas Jefferson and Wayne Brady.
Before they begin, Allfather sends Starr away to get some beignets. Jesse’s pissed at him for being too scared of Allfather to kill him.
When Starr is gone, Allfather presses the button and Genesis is sucked from Jesse into Humperdoo.
AND IT WORKS.
Humperdoo issues a command as Genesis:
“Bow to me.”
Then the doctor shoots him in the head. I thought this was a coupe or something, but no, now they’re going to bring the real Humperdoo in.
Starr better get back soon and kill Allfather, otherwise, Genesis will forever live in Humperdoo.
Gran’ma and SATAN!
Well, Gran’ma had a really bad dream, and it was a peek at what her Hell is going to be when she gets there.
Every soul she’s ever taken is waiting for her.
In her frightened state, she picks up the phone and makes a call. A little while later, the person she called shows up, and it’s Satan! Yes, Gran’ma has a direct line to the devil himself. She even has the nerve to tell him their making a new a deal.
There old one gave her the power to eat souls and stay young, but when she eventually dies, she’ll be the Devil’s.
I don’t know what the new deal is, but Satan agreed to take Tulip to Hell (he sends his Angel of Death for her) because Gran’ma shared a huge secret…
Jesse has Genesis.
Tulip, Jody, and Featherstone
The infiltration of the soul bank in Osaka goes insanely well. They get in and get out with lots of souls. Before they leave the soul bank, Jody gets a call from Miss Marie telling him about the deal with Satan.
When they plane lands in NOLA, Jody gets off quickly and says he’ll get the truck.
Tulip is approached by the Angel of Death. She tells Tulip that she’s looking for a woman with brown hair in a Grail uniform. Tulip, always quick on her feet, makes up a lie about being someone else and flashes the badge she stole from someone in Osaka. Then, because she can’t help herself, she sends this person after Featherstone, who is also a brunette in a Grail uniform.
Tulip gets to the truck with Jody, and he’s surprised to see her. She tells him that Featherstone got held up by the cops so they can just leave her, but Jody tells her that wasn’t the cops. Tulip doesn’t seem to care until she opens the briefcase and realizes that Featherstone has the ones with the souls in it.
She asks Jody who the person was if she wasn’t the police, and Jody stares at her.
The scene shifts and the Angel of Death with Featherstone join the Saint of Killers with Eugene and Hitler at the bus stop.
Eugene is talking to himself about God’s plan and that things will be okay, but Hitler asks Featherstone if she has a cell phone.
He shoots off a quick text to one of his followers that he’s been taken.
By who? We don’t know that part, but it’s Hitler, so I’m sure it’s something that will further his agenda even though he’s not there himself.
So, Jesse’s time is running short, Gran’ma’s souls are in Hell which is where she should be, Cassidy has a very tough choice to make when he wakes up, and Eugene is still the purest cinnamon roll on this show.
