RECAP: ‘grown-ish’ Season 1, Episode 12 “Crew Love”

March 24, 2018 By Team WSN Leave a Comment

It’s time for Cal U’s Freshman Formal! Of course, this raises all sorts of relationship/dating drama for Zoey and her peeps. @luvthispayne recaps this week’s grown-ish, “Crew Love”.

Hey Peeps! We are back in the very last episode before the season finale! Can you believe we have made it through an entire season already? No? Me either! This week was all about the Freshman Formal and love triangles. Let’s get get get itttttt!

When the episode opens Zoey is discussing how her generation has a terrible time discussing their feelings. She mentions their preference for online contact/confrontation versus in person communication. Interestingly this issue is being brought up as Zoey is trying to sort out her feelings for Aaron vs. Luca. Apparently, they’re all out at a club and Zoey is going back and forth between dancing with Aaron and dancing with Luca. Then Aaron and Luca start dancing with other women and Zoey seems to be tinch jealous.

Zoey is also jealous because, its official Jazz and Doug are a THING! Like full on title, label, the whole 9. Doug = Bae. (Hey Diggy Simmons wit yo fine self). Anyway, after they leave the club some of the ladies are a little tipsy but the girls want the scoop on how Jazz and Doug became official. Jazz explains she spent the night at his place and had to go number 2 (girl you’re supposed to hold it). She essentially blew up his bathroom and the next time she stayed over, he had baby wipes ready for her….. That’s love. But he probably should’ve had some damn Febreeze spray.

Anyway all this talk about boyfriends, and you know Zoey can’t stand to not me the center of attention for long, so she starts talking about her dilemma with Aaron and Luca. She likes them both enough to want one of them to be her boyfriend but she doesn’t know if either of them feels the same way about her. This already seems messy. Basically, Sis is like which ever one of y’all ask me to be ya girlfriend first is who I’m going with. SMH!! Besides didn’t she just say like last week she was done focusing on dudes and she said it the week before and the week before and the week before. Essentially, she been saying this shit every week since episode one.

Every week she’s a damn lie. Her solution is to just bring it up with Aaron and Luca and see who’s up for a relationship. But she’s going to slyly discuss it, not address the topic head on. She doesn’t want to have to deal with the possibility of rejection, so she is going to sort of skirt around it. Sounds like a terrible plan TBQMH (look it upon, keeping up with the kids).

First, she starts with Luca. Seriously, as if Luca’s entire life is not vague enough. Trying to inadvertently discuss whether he wants a relationship with you sounds like a HORRIBLE PLAN. Luca barely gives straight forward answers when he’s asked questions directly, how in the world do you think this is going to go. Zoey tries to segue into the conversation by discussing some items she is buying for the girls for Freshman Formal. She mentions that Jazz might want to impress her Bae at the formal and somehow this gets spun into Luca offering to make Zoey a dress for the formal. Zoey foolishly interprets that to mean that Luca would be interested in a relationship with her. GIRL WHET?! Sometimes I am utterly convinced that Zoey is really not bright. I know they lord Jack as the dumb one in the family, but I demand a recount.

Next, she decides to try her conversational tactic on Aaron to see if he’s down with the thought of being in a relationship. Aaron is busy playing a video game and Zoey tries to casually mention that Jazz has changed her relationship status. Aaron’s friend Jahi drops by and Aaron introduces Zoey as one of the homies. Zoey takes this as her answer that Aaron isn’t interested in anything more and storms out upset. I ….. Just….. Sis, how are you taking this as an answer to a question you never asked.

The night of the formal, and when Luca delivers Zoey’s dress, he also delivers a blow to her little ego. She took his offer to make her a dress as some type of indication that he was willing to be in a relationship or had feelings for her. Luca tells her he’s not going to the formal and in fact he thinks its corny. Bloop. Of course, yet again Zoey declares that this will be her opportunity to focus more on her girls. Where. Have. We. Heard. That. Before. El oh El.

At the formal and the girls all look STUNNING. The party is jumping with DJ Charlie FAT BACK on the 1s and 2s. Zoey gets a text to come outside from Aaron and when she does, he finally reveals that he likes her in the way she had been hoping all this time. He picked a helluva moment to let her know how he feels. It was really sweet and cute but UGH! Men and timing SMH

Speaking of men and timing, Luca is there when Aaron happens to be professing his feelings and gets upset. Zoey stops him to talk to him and when she does, he has a TREMENDOUS chip on his shoulder. He explains he only came because Zoey wanted him too and he never actually says he has feelings for her and I kind of want to punch him in the face. Luca is being super pouty and I am dumb confused because bruh you never once told her you liked her and now you are upset because another guy is saying he does ….. LIKE WHAT THE HELL?! Men!!!

Back at the dorm, and Nomi is there because she had to tuck a super drunk Ana in. Zoey comes in and explains her drama to Nomi. Nomi, the ever mature one, urges Zoey to grow up and actually make a decision rather than waiting for Aaron or Luca to decide for her. It’s time to be a big girl now Zoey.

Zoey begins to prepare for bed when there is a knock at the door. She goes to open it, and its none other than CASH MONEY! This is going to be interesting…. I will say this though if the show is going for consistency with #blackish then we KNOW Zoey chooses Aaron because she took him home as her boyfriend. So I’m saying though….

Anywho, I will see y’all Wednesday for how this drama unfolds!
