‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 Episode Titles Honor International Women’s Day

With the Season 2 premiere of Jessica Jones coinciding with International Women’s Day, NETFLIX and Marvel teamed up with 13 women illustrators reveal the season’s episode titles in a super creative way!

Folks, I’m *hella* excited about Season 2 of Jessica Jones, which premieres TOMORROW! Jessica is my absolute favorite of NETFLIX’s Marvel heroes. Her snark is hilarious, but I really admire Jessica’s struggle to embrace her inner-hero, despite losing faith in the world around her. Of course, Jessica’s BFF Trish is central to this development (as is Luke Cage). Similarly, David Tennant as Kilgrave still blows me away. His casual depravity… his obsession with Jessica… it’s intense!

With Season 2 around the corner, NETFLIX’s production notes give us additional insights into what we can expect.

Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg explains where we find Jessica at the beginning of the new season:

“We get to the end of season one and Jessica is forced to kill someone. Even though that person is her tormenter and attacker Kilgrave, she is still taking a life, so it’s this very dark victory. On one hand, she’s gotten rid of a bad guy, but on the other hand she’s become what he wanted her to become so she’s very deep in doubt about who she is.”

According to Krysten Ritter, she sees Season 2 as “peeling back more layers of the onion”. She explains more:

“[Jessica] is a survivor of so many traumas in her life. As this season finds her, we’re starting to learn more about her and initially the biggest factor seems to be that she’s dealing with this inner monster. She’s almost afraid of her power and it strikes me that she’s worried that she’s going to lose control of herself. She’s afraid that because she has killed someone, that she is a murderer. I think it’s a blurry line for her. She wants to be a good person and she tries, but she is dealing with her PTSD and her rage issues, as well as anger, isolation and loneliness. She’s afraid of what tomorrow could bring. Last season was in Jessica Jones’ head and it was so psychological and this season is very much in her heart and it’s much more emotional…

…We are telling stories about complicated women who are very complex, very layered and very real. I think there’s a real hunger to see a different side of a woman that has this kind of power carrying a show like this.”

This portrayal of multiple and complicated female stories on screens is matched by developments behind the scenes with the addition of even more women to key roles. For example, all 13 episodes of Season 2 are directed by women!

With the Season 2 premiere coinciding with International Women’s Day, NETFLIX and decided to take things to another level by revealing the 13 episode titles in a super creative way: Marvel partnered with 13 women artists to create a series of illustrations based on Season 2’s episode titles and in the style of the covers of old-school pulp fiction detective novel! Check them out below (including each episode’s director, writer(s), and illustrator:
