This novel is a quick, fluffy read. Luca knows all the right things to say, and Sabrina doesn’t know how to feel about being treated so well after her marriage ended tragically and dramatically. They fall fast, but she’s feels like she needs to look out for her son’s well-being by maintaining distance between him and Luca, but she gets swept up in being with Luca. (As anyone might!)
There’s not a lot of conflict between the main characters. Everything falls into place for them easily, so it felt so odd to me when Sabrina cuts off Luca for missing one thing in her son’s life, as opposed to letting Luca explain himself and apologize. She’s been very level-headed until that point.
It wasn’t fair to Luca, or Mikey, for that matter. I understood Sabrina wanted to protect her child, but she made the situation worse by kicking Luca out of Mikey’s life so suddenly. Scoring Mr. Romeo is a full length novel, but it felt like this story could have been told in novella format. Short, sweet, and then the drama would have felt a little more believable.
All that being said, it was a good afternoon read. Luca is super swoony! If you’re looking for a man who knows all the right words with a touch of drama thrown in, this one is worth a read.
Here’s a tip: never underestimate romance.

And then I got to know his mother: She was strong, independent, drop-dead gorgeous, and someone I desired – I just needed to prove it to her.
