WSN’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Guide to Killing White Walkers

August 25, 2017 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Ahead of the Game of Thrones Season 7 Finale, we present everhything we know about how to kill White Walkers/wights!

I’m still shaken up after last week’s Game of Thrones episode, especially since the Night King changed the whole game with ICE DRAGON. Why in the world did we ever think doing beyond the Wall to catch a wight would be a good idea?!

More than ever, I’m HELLA concerned with finding out how we can kill White Walkers and the Army of the Dead. If you’re like me, this is a mutual concern. So, ahead of the Game of Thrones Season 7 Finale, I’d like to present six tips for a quick guide on HOW TO KILL A WHITE WALKER/WIGHT.

6. FIRE

In Season 1 Othor, a Night’s Watch ranger, is killed while traveling beyond the Wall for an excursion with Uncle Benjen. (Incidentally, we now know what’s happened to Benjen, and hopefully he survived after saving Jon Snow from the hoard of wights last week.) Othor’s dead body is brought back to Castle Black, and that night it rises as a wight. The wight attacks Lord Commander Jeor Mormont. Jon intervenes to save the Lord Commander and kills the wight by throwing a lamp and lighting it on fire.

5. DRAGONGLASS (AKA Obsidian)

In Season 3, Samwell Tarly and Gilly escape Craster’s Keep after a segment of the Night’s Watch rebel and kill Craster and Jeor Mormont. Sam and Gilly make their way back to Castle Black and stop for the night at an abandoned shack/cabin. The two are unexpectedly attacked by a White Walker. By chance, luck, and quick thinking, Sam is able to kill the White Walker with a dragonglass weapon he grabbed while at the Fist of the First Men, back in Season 2.

4. VALYRIAN STEEL

In Season 5, at Hardhome, Jon’s attempt to save the Free Folk and bring them south of the Wall is interrupted by an attack by the Army of the Dead. In the melee, Jon faces off directly with a White Walker. By luck he’s able to retrieve Longclaw. Jon engages the White Walker and is able to strike it’s body. The White Walker shatters and everyone is surprised, Jon, us, and the Night King.

3. KILL A WALKER, KILL ITS SIRE-LINE

Last week, (Season 7, “Beyond the Wall”), during an excursion to capture a wight and bring it South, Jon and his team engage a small group of wights and a Walker. Jon takes on the White Walkder and strikes it with Longclaw. As expected, the White Walker shatters. However, almost simultaneously, practically every wight in the group also fall. Jon and his companions speculate that the wights that die are the ones the Walker created. Later, while tapped in the middle of a rapidly freezing ice pond, Dondarrion suggests that, since the Night King is the first of all the White Walkers/wights, killing him will end the Army of the Dead.

2. DRAGONFIRE

If human fire can take out a wight, you better believe Dragonfire can do a whole lot of damage. Last week, (Season 7, “Beyond the Wall”), when Jon and his team are trapped by the Army of the Dead, Gendry is able to escape and return to Eastwatch to send a raven to Dany. Despite Tyrion’s advice to the contrary, Dany and her dragons travel North, Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal serve a huge blow to the Army of the Dead by lighting tons of wights on fire. It is awesome, though we know that Dany pays a huge price… RIP Viserion!

1. AZOR AHAI/THE PRINCE THAT WAS PROMISED

If you believe the prophecies, especially those of Melisandre and the faith of the Lord of Light, Azor Ahai/The Prince that Was Promised is hero who will be reborn. He/She (thank you Missandei for the accurate translation from High Valyrian!) will ride with dragons and the sword Lightbringer to lead a charge against the Army of the Dead and kill the Night King. However, the question remains, who is the Prince? Is Jon? Dany? Tyrion? Jaime? Bran? The Hound???!!! What’s your best guess?

P.S. Collider has a great article HERE that gives more information about the prophecy of Azor Ahai. The Ringer (HERE) and The Game of Thrones Wiki also have awesome information (HERE).
