The Time Team celebrated Timeless‘ uncancellation with fans at SDCC 2017 and offered new details about Season 2. Check out more details + exclusive images from the panel.

One of my absolute favorite freshman shows of the 2016 – 2017 TV season has to be NBC’s Timeless. Of course a show about traveling through time to different moments pivotal in America’s history would be of particular notice for history-buffs like me. Yet, Timeless is so much more, especially given their careful attention to telling inclusive stories, both past and present. So when NBC revealed that the series would be cancelled after the first season, I definitely took to Twitter to encourage NBC to #RenewTimeless. Lo and behold, days later, the network announced that Timeless had been uncanceled, everyone on the Time Team cheered the reversal. And in the lead up to this year’s Comic-Con, the show’s cast and creators wanted to make sure we knew that the Timeless panel would be all about celebrating the fans who were so persistent in demanding that this quality show got another shot!
Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Višnji?, and Executive Producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke were on-hand for the SDCC panel where they talked about Season 1 and answered fans’ burning questions.
The panel began with an awesome video montage of our favorite Season 1 moments, fan tweets during the #RenewTimeless campaign, and praise from the press. (You can watch the video below, and trust, it will give you all the feels!)

Everyone expressed being totally stunned when NBC called with news that Timeless‘ cancellation had been reversed. They were flabbergasted, amazed, and so grateful about fan love for the show that made Season 2 possible.
We got a few more details about the next season: writers start on the ten episode Season 2 in September, while filming starts in November in Los Angeles. The new season will dive deeper into the characters, exploring Lucy’s mom as a villain and big bad. At the same time Rittenhouse has the time machine, which (apparently) is way worse than Flynn having it. This will forge an unlikely alliance between the Time Team and Flynn. We’ll also get more of the Lyatt and Rufus/Gia relationships, so shippers can rejoice!
Other favorite moments during the panel:
- Season 1 is out on DVD on September 19 and we got to preview the gag reel that’s part of the special features.
- The idea for Rittenhouse came from a practical story reason, the need for a puzzle that would be part of a bigger mission. Rittenhouse was inspired by the Free Masons, Illuminati, and the name actually came from Eric Kripke’s search of historical clock makers.
- “History is for everybody and America is for everybody!” *wild applause* because this is totally what the show is about and is reflected in the stories, cast, and writer’s room.
- We settled on CLOCKBLOCKERS as the fandom name 😉 .
