Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart star in upcoming action flick Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Watch the first trailer!
This isn’t quite Robin Williams’ Jumanji…
Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan star in the upcoming action flick Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, producer Matt Tolmach expressed that this isn’t really a remake of the 1995 film, rather this 2017 version will add another adventure to the Jumanji world:
“We always talk about [Welcome to the Jungle] as another Jumanji adventure. It is very much the spirit of Jumanji, but with a different group of people and sort of a different idea. But the idea of the game that comes to life is the DNA there.”
In the first trailer, we definitely get some Breakfast Club vibes, where we see four teens end up in detention together. As they’re in the high school’s basement doing some cleaning, they come across an video game console. They turn it on, pick their characters, and then they’re literally sucked into the game… but not as themselves; as their avatars! From then, it’s on to survive in a wild world that’s determined to kill them:
You know, there’s more comedy than I was expecting, but with Kevin Hart and Jack Black in the mix, you know the hilarity will ensue. The whole body-swapping thing is even more funny because the avatars seem so at odds with the teens’ actual personalities: Spencer as Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Fridge as Franklin “Moose” Finbar (Kevin Hart), Martha as Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), and, the most hilarious transformation of Bethany Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black).
Did you also notice Nick Jonas’ character (Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough), who seems to be some sort of Jumanji guide?
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is coming from Sony Pictures on December 20, so make sure to add it to your list of things to do during your Winter Break!
