The Librarian Principle is the first non-PUCKED book I’ve read from Helena Hunting, and while I adore the PUCKED series, The Librarian Principle totally pwned me too!
Annaliese Harper has just started a position as librarian at the Fullerton Academy of Higher Learning. Liese loves her job and working with students, but there’s an extra bonus, and that’s her sexy, new boss Principal Ryder Whitehall. Ryder is exactly her cup of tea–tall, gorgeous, and passionate about student learning. With that said, Liese tries to keep things professional, especially since he’s her advisor. Unfortunately, things go awry when Liese accidentally shows Ryder the porn folder on her laptop. Even more mortifying? The folder includes super porntastic manips of her and Ryder in hella compromising positions. Is Liese going to be fired? Will she be labeled a deviant and blackballed from here on out? Well, it turns out that Ryder has been crushing on Liese too… and he is all about making those manips a reality. Liese and Ryder’s first sexy times are incendiary:
“Tell me what you want,” he said.
Supplication merged with abject longing, and Ryder’s fingers twitched, a reminder of how close they were to a place she wanted them to go, but shouldn’t. Regardless, she didn’t want him to stop. Hands shaking, she answered the question with actions: grasping his belt buckle, she unhooked the clasp. His breath fanned over her cheek on a warm sigh. Ryder’s fingers moved lower.
“You have no idea how difficult it’s been,” he whispered as he kissed his way over her cheek to the corner of her mouth. At the same time he circled, teased, and then suddenly pushed inside, his fingers curled, sensation radiating from the center of her body to consume her in a wave of desire.…
After a few moments he toyed with her, replacing his fingers with his cock, stroking back and forth before slowly pushing inside. Ryder kissed her shoulder and up the side of her neck, pausing at the hollow beneath her ear.
“I knew you’d feel like heaven.”
Liese released a shuddering breath when his hips eased back. His hand ghosted along her ribs, palming a breast as he pushed back in. He moved over her, slow at first, the headboard protesting the forward momentum. Chest pressed against her back, Ryder’s fingers slid between her own, his grip tight on the smooth wood surface, gaining leverage as his pace quickened. His lips brushed her cheek, and she turned into the unexpected affection.
“I want to feel you come while I’m inside you,” he said in a seductive whisper.
It was all too much: Ryder moving inside her, his fingers threaded tight through hers, the feel of his lips, and then his teeth against her neck. The sensations he evoked paired with his words sent her over the edge. Freefalling, Liese gave herself over to the feeling of being completely consumed.
HAVE. MERCY.
But here’s the thing, their school has a non-fraternization policy, so whatever relationship they have will have to be a complete secret. Even with this complication, Liese wouldn’t mind continuing to see Ryder. However, Ryder’s intentions aren’t so clear, at least not at first. One thing neither of them can deny is the sizzling chemistry between them.
The Librarian Principle is romantic comedy at its best, evidenced by the great characters. Yes, Liese is a respectable educator and takes her job seriously. Yet, she’s also unrestrained in the bedroom. Liese knows what she likes and has no compunctions about enjoying sex to the fullest. I think this is what gives Ryder the space to play too. He’s normally so self-contained, but once Liese makes her desires known, Ryder almost has permission to explore his kinky side.
The sex is HAWT, and what’s more, the romance is super swoony too:
“What I’m trying to tell you, and making a fool of myself in the process, is that the attraction for me was instant. Intellectually, you were my ideal, but when I met you, you exceeded my expectations in every way possible…”
…He put his hand over hers, twining their fingers together.
“I’m rather lucky I can talk my way out of my own idiocy, and even more fortunate you’re so understanding.”
“I am very understanding, aren’t I?” Liese agreed.
“Very.” Ryder raised her hand and placed a soft kiss there, his lips warm even against her heated skin.
“It wouldn’t do you any harm to express your gratitude for my unparalleled understanding,” she added.
Ryder prowled over her, covering her body with his. Nudging her thighs apart, he settled between them and cradled the back of her head in his hand.
“How does this feel to you?”
He nipped at her bottom lip, the sensual swivel of his hips bringing his erection flush against her. Liese sighed, tilting her hips up to add to the friction she needed. She wanted to punish him for having been so imperceptive, but her own need took charge. He moved against her, a slow, stroking rhythm that took her higher, but not high enough..Warm, strong fingers slid inside her, bringing her to the edge over and over again until she was writhing, begging for the release she craved. The press of his thumb and the curl of his fingers, combined with dirty promises of future orgasms, sent her headlong into the abyss of pleasure.
Though Ryder and Liese eventually get on the same page, what can they do about non-fraternization policy? No spoilers, but there is an HEA and it’s so fulfilling!
You’ve already seen the incredible sexy times and the romance, but we get several comedic moments with Liese, her best friend Marissa, and Liese’s parents. There’s a bit of drama when Liese’s ex-boyfriend (turn stalker) comes around, but even that is resolved quickly and with some humor. In the end Liese and Ryder are together and the epilogue gives us a glimpse into their beautiful future.
I totally recommend The Librarian Principle for contemporary romance fans and those who enjoy romantic comedy. Liese and Ryder don’t get as wacky as Helena’s PUCKED series, but this is a really fun book too. (And seriously, could anyone even approach Vi’s ridiculousness?!)
