The first teaser trailer and poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released at this morning’s SWCO panel. Let’s talk about our theories!
Star Wars Celebration 2017 Orlando (#SWCO) is currently underway, and the festivities commemorating the 40-year anniversary of the series have been incredible!
If you haven’t seen the Carrie Fisher tribute from the “40 Years of Star Wars” panel or the fantastic pic of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Billie Lourd, prepare your feels and then run to take a look.
Needless to say, the highlights of the weekend have been incredible. With that said, we need to talk about what we’ve all really been anticipating.
This morning SWCO hosted The Last Jedi panel, moderated by Josh Gad and joined by TLJ director Rian Johnson, producer Kathleen Kennedy, and stars Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker). Fans we also introduced to Kelly Marie Tran, who is playing Rose, a maintenance worker on the side of the Resistance. (And according to Johnson, she is the biggest new part of the movie!)
The panel then showcased the new poster for The Last Jedi, as well as the first teaser trailer from the film.
The poster depicts Luke and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) on opposing sides (representing the battle between light and darkness that’s to come?) and Rey standing in the middle, raising her light saber into the sky. (Is the throwback to the original poster for Star Wars: A New Hope purposeful?)

The teaser trailer continues this theme. We see that Rey is in training with Luke (who is still in exile), and as she taps into the Force, he asks her what she sees. Rey responds: “Light. Darkness. The balance…” The most interesting speculation I’ve seen on twitter (from @ValerieComplex) is that this is a major indication that Rey will be a Gray Jedi (“Force-users who walked the line between the light and dark sides of the Force without surrendering to the dark side” via Wookieepedia). MIND BLOWN.
Of course there will be conflict and epic space battles and General Organa will be there playing a critical role in the Resistance. But I think what’s most shocking is Luke’s claim that “It’s time for the Jedi to end.” What does that mean???
Watch the trailer and share your best guesses with us!
