February 13, 2017 By T.J. Leave a Comment

Summit Entertainment’s John Wick: Chapter 2 hit theaters on Friday, February 10th and was sadly unable to dominate its competition, but it did amass spectacular reviews including a 5 STAR review from We So Nerdy.

[Spoilers Ahead]

Sequels are often a miss more than hits – however, that was not the case for John Wick: Chapter 2! Simply, at the close of John Wick, the assassin who came out of retirement to retrieve his beloved car and avenge his dog had decimated Viggo Tarasov’s (Michael Nyqvist) crew and was blessed with a new pup. The sequel picks up shortly after the close of its predecessor, and John (Keanu Reeves) has located his 1969 Mustang Mach1 Coupe, now painted a matte black in the clutches of Viggo’s brother Abram (Peter Stormare).

An action packed opening filled with awesome fight scenes and a crazy car chase sequence that can lead the audience to believe that John Wick will actually be able to retire from the life, sleep in with his pup, and get his Mustang in mint condition with the help of his pal Aurelio (John Leguizamo) at some point in the future. But dreams are for suckas, because John owes a debt in the form of a blood oath to Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio), a member of the Italian Camarro. The marker must be cleared if John wants to be able to grieve his beloved Helen (Bridget Moynahan) in peace.

Off to Rome we go, with the backdrop of one of the world’s most beautiful cities to encounter fight choreography done to perfection, arsenals unmatched, the Italian Continental, and fellow assassin Cassian (Common). Each scene with quiet reverence is better than the next. And if the audience wasn’t impressed with Rome, we venture back to the Big Apple with every available assassin in the world coming for John since there is a 7M bounty on his head.

Even though many of the moments that occur stateside are quite predictable, the execution for each was beyond enjoyable to witness. And whether you were a Matrix fan or not, seeing Keanu come face-to-face with Laurence Fishburne who portrays the Bowery King was a highlight of the film.

With an old partnership taking new form in John Wick: Chapter 2, along with breathtaking landscapes, experiencing Keanu perform his own stunts, detailed action sequences, along with being reacquainted with Winston (Ian McShane) and Charon (Lance Reddick) it was necessary to give 5 STARS to the sequel. Now we impatiently wait for the John Wick franchise to become a trilogy.
