BOOK REVIEW: ‘Origin’ by Jennifer Armentrout—5 Stars

January 27, 2017 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

[Some Spoilers, For Mature Audiences]

Origin (Lux, #4)Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have to be honest, this review has been several days in the making. It’s not because Origin isn’t excellent (because it is…this story is SENSATIONAL), but I’ve had a hard time trying to figure out how to put my enthusiasm into words. I have so much affection for the Lux series, these amazing characters, and their journey. Jennifer Armentrout has done it again: these books just keep getting better and better! I gladly give Origin 5 stars…I’d give it a million if I could!

Before I delve in, I know that my reviews are usually chock-full of spoilers. But I really think it’s important to have a fresh experience with this story, first-hand, up-close, and personal. I’ve tried to rein myself in this time…we’ll see how it goes! 😉

Origin picks up roughly 36 – 48 hours after Opal ends. We’re back with Katy who’s been kidnapped and is being held hostage by Daedelus. As Katy tries to survive, Daemon is doing everything he can to get to her… to save her. However, they’re both repeatedly faced with the question of who they can trust. Are Daedelus truly the bad guys? Are the Arum enemies? Is it possible the Lux are the aggressors in this intergalactic war that has now reached Earth?

I think I love Katy before, but it’s nothing compares to what I feel for her now! Katy is excellent: she’s so kind and selfless. And Katy is strong; she has such bravery and fortitude! Even in the face of evil and severe pain, even when she’s afraid, Katy is 100% willing to confront those obstacles. She will do whatever it takes to keep her loved ones safe.
And speaking of loved ones…

DAEMON. One of Origin’s *best* highlights it Daemon POV. I love being in his mind…Daemon is certainly self-assured and confident, but that cockiness looks SO good on him! He’s snarky and sarcastic, which makes the inner dialogue just as funny as what actually leaves his mouth! But all that aside, the lengths that Daemon is willing to go to in order to save Katy…the sacrifices he’s willing to make, the torment he’s willing to endure…it’s overwhelming and so, so lovely.

D: “You’re my–you’re my everything, Kat…I love you.”

I know I said I would avoid spoilers, but you know I can’t do a review without highlighting some spectacular sexy times:
“I was greedy, and my hands were everywhere, my lips following their path. Our bodies moved together like there had been no time separating us. And as I stared down at her, my gaze traveling over her flushed cheeks and swollen lips, I knew right then that there’d never be a more beautiful, more perfect moment in my life than this. I was drunk on her taste, on her touch. There was only the sound of our pounding hearts, until she called out my name, and I broke apart…” Lawwwwwwwwwwwwwd!

I love love love love love Daemon and Katy! Even though the world is crumbling around them, they’re able to find strength in each other and it’s glorious to see!

And that ending…my head is still spinning! There are several scenes that swoon me, break my heart, and frighten me out of my mind! Daemon and Katy, along with the other characters, experience some major milestones. The action keeps growing, the mystery keeps unfolding, and as we end the book, we know that we’re rushing, head first, into a culmination of events that will challenge everything we know and test the relationships we’ve come to love.

I’m so scared/nervous/excited! And I absolutely can’t wait to jump into Opposition!

From the very beginning until the end, Origin is well written, engaging, compelling, and impossible to put down. This series is MUSTREAD MUSTREAD MUSTREAD!
