The much anticipated documentary Hamilton’s America will air on tonight on PBS, and we can’t wait! Here are the details we have on this 90 minutes special.
PBS Arts Fall Festival kicks off with Hamilton’s America tonight at 9/8c! This will give us a detailed look into the process of making Hamilton: An American Musical with video taken of the shows writer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, writing some of the very first songs.
The documentary will have exclusive interviews with the cast, director, and orchestra director along with a wide variety of other prominent individuals including: “President Barack Obama, President George W. Bush. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Secretary Hank Paulson, Secretary Timothy Geithner, Questlove, Black Thought, Jimmy Fallon, John Weidman, Nas and Stephen Sondheim.” [Source: Playbill]
The documentary’s director Alex Horwitz began filming Lin-Manuel Miranda very early on in the process. He was writing a single song, and the musical grew from there. During the documentary, the cast will visit many historical sites that are relevant to their characters and history.
The documentary will be incredible and showcase the differences between the original material written for the musical contrasted to how it turned out.
Here’s the extended trailer from PBS:
One of my favorite moments from this trailer is when Lin and Leslie, Hamilton and Burr, hold the very dueling pistols that were used back in 1804.
This documentary is going to be so rich and wonderful. I can’t wait for tonight to hear what all these amazing people have to say about how this show changed their lives and how they feel about the men and women they’re portraying,
Many of us didn’t know much about Alexander Hamilton until this musical. He was the guy that died in a duel, but if you only listen to the opening number, Alexander Hamilton you can’t help but be moved and opened up into an entire world that you didn’t know existed.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is an absolute genius, and we are drawn in by his storytelling. Take a look at these incredible stills from tonight’s documentary!
