PREVIEW: ‘Pitch’ Season 1, Episode 2 “The Interim”

During an away game in LA, Ginny tries to connect with her teammates. Meanwhile, the Padres deal with more drama when a past sexist comment made by Al resurfaces. Get a sneak peek of tonight’s Pitch!

You guys, Pitch is completely pwning me (YES, with a “p” because it’s that serious!).

From the teasers and sneak peeks we’d got over the summer, I had a feeling that the series would be spectacular, and after that pilot episode, I’m even more wowed.

Kylie Bunbury  is a rockstar as Ginny Baker. It was awesome to see her journey to Major League Baseball. Ginny knows she’s amazing because she’s been working her whole life for this moment. Sure Ginny flounders a little under the pressure, but she doesn’t give up. She keeps practicing, getting back on the pitching mound, putting herself out there. And in the end, Ginny has her shining moment.

I’m so glad we get to see Ginny’s journey through childhood, particularly her relationship with her father. That relationship is super complex. There are moments where I’m appalled by Mike Baker (Michael Beach)… like when he slaps Ginny’s younger brother as “motivation” to help her throw a strike. Mr. Baker is relentless, but I can understand that his methods likely gave Ginny the discipline and tenacity to make it to the San Diego Padres. But that twist in the end… with Mr. Baker being dead and Ginny using her father’s ghost as her own personal coach… WOW! I wonder how that will play out during the rest of the season.

I’m also curious about Ginny’s relationship with Mike Lawson (Mark-Paul Gosselaar). There’s some serious chemistry between them and, of course, I love that he’s the person to give Ginny the pep talk she needs to forget the pressures around her and focus on baseball. I’m also glad that Ginny has a friend in Blip (Mo McRae) and his wife Evelyn (Meagan Holder).

Finally, I just need to say that Ali Larter is giving me SO much life in the role as Ginny’s agent, Amelia Slater. I think we all need that kind of fierceness in that corner!

I definitely can’t wait to live tweet tonight’s episode!

In “The Interim”:

Ginny attempts to fit in with the team, in spite of a sexist comment Al made about her years ago resurfacing. Meanwhile, Mike comes to terms with the mortality of his career and the end of his marriage, and Blip deals with fallout from Evelyn defending him to the media. (via FOX)

In these clips from the upcoming episode, we see Ginny trying to develop a relationship with her teammates. Mike calls her out for not trusting him to call pitches. We can also look forward to a hilarious moment when Ginny gets her teammates riled up at dinner when she’s asked a personal question. Finally, we get a glimpse of Al’s public apology about the sexist comment he made about Ginny…which doesn’t end well.

Take a look at 10+ images from tonight’s Pitch, and make sure to into tune into FOX at 8:59pm ET|PT  for “The Interim”.  Come live tweet with me (@WeSoNerdy) too!
