Poldark’s Season 2 gets an official U.S. premiere date for September 25! Find out why we love this period drama and start binge-watching today!

Last summer I remember my Twitter TL bring full of Poldark love. I wasn’t familiar with the books, but a quick trip to Goodreads revealed that it embodied the things I love most in a story—Poldark was historical, romantic, and multigenerational.
So after chatting with some Tweeps, I decided to watch… and I LOVED it.
In all honesty, Poldark started a little slow, but by the end of the third episode, I was all in. And that finale episode… still gets me all verklempt!
Poldark starts with the story of Ross Poldark, a British veteran of the American Revolutionary War. After the UK loses, Ross returns to Cornwall to find his home falling apart and his community on the brink of major conflict. Unemployment, hunger, and sickness are widespread among the working class, while the wealthy landowners prosper.
Ross attempts to ameliorate this growing inequality by resurrecting the Wheal Leisure copper mine and the Carnmore Copper (smelting) Company. He does so by pooling resources from local small business owners (instead of relying on financing from the Warleggans, the local banking monopoly). Wheal Leisure provides jobs and fair wages, which competes against his Uncle Charles and Cousin Francis’ Grambler mine.
Personally, Ross’ life is pretty unfortunate, at least at first. Before leaving for war he promised himself to his childhood love, Elizabeth. But after returning to Cornwall, he learns that Elizabeth is marrying Francis! But soon, Ross finds companionship and eventually love with Demelza, his kitchen-maid, turned wife.
There’s SO much drama… the competition between Wheal Leisure and Grambler AKA between Ross and Francis; the Ross/Demelza/Elizabeth/Francis love-rhombus; Francis’ sister Verity falling in love with an inappropriate match (Captain Andrew Blamey), and more.

By the end of the first season, Ross has lost Carnmore Copper Company to the Warleggans; Demelza and her daughter Julia (with Ross) become sick and while Demelza survives, the baby doesn’t; and Ross is arrested for plundering one of the Warleggans’ cargo ships.
YIKES!
As you can imagine Poldark fans (me included) are *desperate* for the second season… and this week we got some great news!
Season 2 premieres on Sunday, September 25 at 8:00pm ET with a 2 hour episode. The series will then continue Sundays at 9:00pm ET from October 2 – November 27.
Sexy Aidan Turner returns as Ross Poldark, and is joined again by Eleanor Tomlinson (Demelza), Heida Reed (Elizabeth), Kyle Soller (Francis), Ruby Bentall (Verity), and Jack Farthing (George Warleggan). We also know that there will be ten episodes in Season 2 (two more than the first season).
I cannot wait for more Romelza and you better believe I’ll be live tweeting during the series!
If you’ve haven’t watched Poldark Season 1 yet, I definitely recommend it for a summer binge watch! The episodes are available on Amazon Prime and it’s likely that PBS will make them available to stream once we get closer to the Season 2 premiere.
