Focus Features shares first trailer from highly-anticipated drama, Loving, honoring real-life courage of interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving.

If you’ll allow me to be serious for only a little bit, this has been a tough summer across the world, particularly concerning issues of race, ethnicity, sexuality, and immigration.
At times it may seem like everything is coming apart at the seams, but whenever possible it’s important to take a step back and take a larger assessment of the progress our societies have (not) made.
The upcoming, highly-anticipated film Loving provides provides us that chance.
Loving follows the real-life story of Richard and Mildred Loving, a courageous interracial couple who challenged antimiscegenation laws that made interracial relationships illegal.
The Lovings were arrested in their Virginia town and appealed their conviction all the way to the Supreme Court. And in 1967, the Court ruled that these “racial integrity” laws were unconstitutional.
Today we live with the legacies of Loving vs. Virginia, but can you imagine the bravery and determination Richard and Mildred must have had to see this through?
The film Loving (starring Joel Edgerton as Richard and Ruth Negga as Mildred) gives us insight into how love overcame all in this case.
Earlier this week Focus Features released the first official trailer, and let me tell you, it’s emotional!
We see Richard and Mildred falling in love, getting married, and starting a family. At the same time, we witness the derision they experienced from their community, the Lovings’ multiple arrests, and the help they received to bring this before the Supreme Court.

*WOOOOOOOSAH* I’m not crying… you’re crying!
In May, Loving had its world premiere at the 2016 Cannes International Film Festival and received rave reviews. For example, according to Yahoo! Movies’ Kerrie Mitchell:
The movie is remarkable in its restraint and understated grace… Edgerton is terrific…. It’s Negga, though, who leaves the biggest impression. An Ethiopian-Irish actress… Negga has huge eyes that register every emotion, and she gives Mildred an indomitable will beneath her mild, warm exterior.
I cannot wait to see this film!
Loving hits theaters this Fall, on November 4, 2016.
