Sassenachs, as far as finales go, “Dragonfly in Amber” is one of the best I’ve seen.
Now, I’ve read the book (Dragonfly in Amber) and this episode, even with the added 30 minutes, streamlined a bulk of the novel, including the lead up to Jamie and Claire’s separation, Bree and Roger learning about their heritage, and Gillian/Geillis.
With that said, I thought the episode was masterfully done.
Caitriona Balfe has propelled this season with her spectacular talent and it culminates in this finale when we see older Claire. She has spent 20 years living a life she didn’t want, but finding some joy in her daughter, her last connection to Jamie.
Now that Frank is dead, Claire isn’t breaking a promise by seeking out Jamie’s legacy and telling Bree about her real father. Of course, the irony is that just when Claire is able to say goodbye, we learn that Jamie has survived Culloden. But now there are so many questions!
Can Claire really go back through the stones again? How can she make sure she finds Jamie in 1766? And what about leaving Bree? Of course, these are all questions for Season 3 😉
In any event, I am so impressed with the level of emotion and complexity Cait brings to Claire. BRAVA!
Similarly, Sam Heughan fills Jamie’s shoes in the most amazing way.

Watching Jamie wrestled with what he has done and must do breaks my heart—killing Dougal, giving up Lallybroch, forcing a separation from Claire and his child. And all that’s waiting for him is a bloody death in that godforsaken moor?!
But for Claire’s sake, Jamie does it, and he doesn’t seem to have an ounce of resentment for the cards he’s been dealt. Hell to the yes, he loved Claire well!
I also have to say that I LOVE Sophie Skelton as Bree and Richard Rankin as Roger. Truthfully, aside from Jamie and Claire, those two are my faves in the Outlander series, and Sophie and Richard completely exceeded my expectations in their roles. I’m really looking forward to seeing Bree and Roger’s relationship develop in the future!

So now Droughtlander beings… if the past is any indication, STARZ will be sharing various goodies to help us get through this inter-season hiatus. In the meantime, I plan to rewatch Season 2 and start binge-reading Voyager!
Many thanks to the cast, crew, and creators for a phenomenal season and I can’t wait to see what else Team Outlander has in store for us!
