PREVIEW: ‘Outlander’ Season 2, Episode 12 “The Hail Mary”

June 23, 2016 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

The Battle of Culloden is just three days away… Jamie suggests a plan as a last ditch effort to prevent the Jacobite loss. Get a sneak peek of this week’s Outlander (“The Hail Mary”), airing Saturday, June 25 at 9:00pm ET|PT on STARZ.

Sassenachs… *SIGH* I think my Tweep and fellow Outlander-lover Lizzie said it best:

Watching this week's #Outlander is like standing on the train-tracks, knowing a train is coming, and yet being unable to move.

Don’t you agree?!

Thanks to the first episode of the season “Through a Glass, Darkly“, we know a pregnant Claire returns to the 1940’s and she’s completely devastated because she believes Jamie dies in the Battle of Culloden.

Over the course of the last 11 episodes we’ve been learning about the events that would cause Claire and/or Jamie to abandon all hope and send her back through the stones at Craigh na Dun. Each time we see the two try to change the future (either in Paris or in Scotland), we see history unfolding, irrespective of their attempts.

In “Vengeance is Mine” (once again) we observe that Prince Charles, with his Walkers Shortbread looking self, is a pompous and foolish man advised by equally pompous and foolish commanders.

Despite Jamie’s appeals, the Jacobite Army has retreated to Scotland for the winter and the Red Coats are in hot pursuit!

Sure Jamie and Claire are able to avoid catastrophe this time, mostly because of Hugh Munro, Murtagh, and Mary. But at this point, how can the war be won? We’re on our way to Inverness and we all know what’s there…

So yes, Lizzie is 100% right! We’re standing on the train-tracks and we know that major pain is coming, but nothing can force us out of the way. *CRIES*

In Saturday’s Outlander, the penultimate episode of the season, the Battle of Culloden is quickly approaching and as the episode title suggests, the Frasers have one more move in their pocket, a last ditch effort, to hopefully help history shift in their favor.

In “The Hail Mary” (written by Anne Kenney and Ira Steven Behr, directed by Philip John):

As Jamie puts all of his efforts into turning the Jacobite army away from the impending slaughter at Culloden Moor, Claire attempts to comfort the sick Alex Randall. She is stunned when Alex reveals an outrageous plan to save the mother of his child. (via STARZ)

So this week has more reunions in store for us! After watching Sandringham lose his head last week, this may/may not be good news. Alex Randall will make another appearance… and what’s this about the mother of his child?!

From the preview trailer (below) we also know that Black Jack Randall is also around. Goodness, this episode might end me.

Thanks to a Vanity Fair exclusive, we can watch a clip from the upcoming show. Jamie and Claire are near Inverness (a few miles away from Culloden Moor), and despite all their plotting, we’re THREE DAYS away from April 16, 1746, the day of the Battle of Culloden.

Watch this on The Scene.

In this second clip (via Elle exclusive), we watch as Charle orders the Jacobite Army to march to Culloden Moor:

Claire… Jamie… I don’t even know why we thought history could be altered like this!

Sassenachs, we’re going to have to gather in a prayer circle to help us get through these last two episodes!

Take a look at seven photo stills below, and remember to tune STARZ this Saturday, June 25 at 9:00pm ET|PT for “The Hail Mary”. Come live tweet with us at @WeSoNerdy, too!
