Meet Disney’s newest (Polynesian) Princess in the teaser trailer for Moana, coming this Thanksgiving!
It doesn’t matter how old I get, I will always fan-flail over Disney movies! Last month I was all in my feelings during the Disney Channel Original Movie marathon (you better believe my TV was tuned in during all three days). The release of the first trailer from upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast only heightened my nostalgia and excitement.
However, fans of Disney Animation shouldn’t feel left out! Yesterday, during the 2016 Tony Awards, Disney released the first trailer for their upcoming animated musical adventure, Moana.
Moana delves into Polynesian mythology and folklore and stars Auli’i Cravalho in the title role, while Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson voices the demi-god, Maui. Take a look at the film synopsis and trailer below. P.S. Hamilton fans should get excited because Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote some of Moana‘s music, too!

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.
Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”) and produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), “Moana” sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016. (via Disney)
