PREVIEW: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6, Episode 8 “No One”

June 10, 2016 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Brienne and Jaime meet at Riverrun; Cersei chooses violence (carried out by Franken-Mountain); Arya is still on the run from the Waif. Get a sneak peek of this week’s Game of Thrones (“No One”), airing Sunday, June 12 at 9:00pm ET|PT on HBO.

The current season of Game of Thrones has been chock-full of OMG moments. From the premiere episode where Melisandre reveals her true self (wrinkles and all; “The Red Woman“), every episode in Season 6 leaves us with wide eyes and all the questions. Last week’s episode is the very same, especially when we see that “The Broken Man” is none other than Sandor Clegane AKA The Hound.

When the episode begins without the intro-credits, I know something big is coming! Sandor has survived Brienne’s ass-kicking and is nursed back to health by Brother Ray, a septon of the Faith of the Seven. Sandor is living with Brother Ray’s commune and, just when he might achieve some level of peace, three men from the Brotherhood Without Banners dash it all. They slaughter every member of the commune while Sandor is off chopping wood. Perhaps Sandor isn’t surprised, after all he warns Brother Ray that the time would come where they would need to take up arms to protect themselves. At the same time, this just might be the straw the broke the camel’s back. Sandor collects his axe and takes off, presumably to seek revenge. Afterwards, I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes his (somewhat righteous) anger to King’s Landing…

  1. I am so sure that Cleganebowl is coming! Cersei’s trial by combat is coming up and The Mountain is her champion. High Sparrow will need a champion too, and wouldn’t Sandor be a fantastic one to have?
  2. I’ll just throw this out there—Sandor is the valonqar.

Thoughts?

In other developments:
—I’m even more curious about what Margaery has planned. Lady Olenna is leaving King’s Landing after receiving confirmation that her granddaughter is still loyal to House Tyrell. Cersei even came to gloat about Lady Olenna leaving; however, I wouldn’t be too excited if I was her. Margaery will either force Cersei out of King’s Landing or the Queen Mother will die. Either way, I don’t think Season 6 will end very well for Cersei (or the Lannisters).

—#TeamLyannaMormont, even though no one else will stand by Jon and Sansa, Lady Lyanna of Bear Island will! I love her fierce spunk and no-nonsense attitude. Yes, I hope we get to see Lady Lyanna when she’s older because she will be a force to be reckoned with.

Unfortunately, Lady Lyanna and her 62 men won’t be enough to help Jon and Sansa take back Winterfell. Sansa was clearly concerned about their numbers and ended up sending a raven to someone…to ask for help? I’m thinking Sansa is calling on Petyr Baelish, who currently has the Knights of the Vale at his command. But if she once again finds herself in Littlefinger’s debt, that might not be the best place to be.

—How interesting that Yara plans to carry out Uncle Euron’s plan before he can. She’s going to take her ships and use them to form an alliance with Dany. Looks like Dany, the Dothraki, and her dragons will be arriving in Westeros sooner than later!

—How can Arya survive that dagger to the gut, courtesy of the Waif? Truth be told, I think the whole thing was a plot to draw out the Waif (and maybe even Jaqen). Arya has to know that she has a bounty on her head after not killing Lady Crane. So when she publicly approaches a ship captain to book passage on a ship back to Westeros, dressed like Ned Stark and flamboyantly tossing bags of coins, it’s totally all an act!

This week’s episode will likely shed some light on Arya’s fate. In “No One” (written by David Benioff  and D. B. Weiss, directed by Mark Mylod):

While Jaime weighs his options, Cersei answers a request. Tyrion’s plans bear fruit. Arya faces a new test. (via HBO)

The episode title “No One” seems to suggest that the episode will focus heavily on Arya; however from the synopsis, episode stills, and preview trailer it looks like we’ll be spending a lot of time with the Lannisters.
