Video game-to-film adaptation Warcraft is an epic adventure of world-colliding conflict, starring Travis Fimmel, Toby Kebbell, and Paula Patton. Get a preview and pre-order your tickets for this weekend!

Video game to movie adaptations aren’t particularly new. In the 1990s, we had Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat. But with the huge box office success of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001 (over $274 million worldwide), Resident Evil in 2002 (over $102 million worlwide), and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in 2010 (over $336 million worldwide and highest-grossing video game adaptation ever), it’s no surprise that we’ll be seeing more and more of these adaptations.
This summer, we’ve already seen the release of The Angry Birds Movie as well as a first look at 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed (starring Michael Fassbender). And this weekend, Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures are releasing Warcraft, the epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based on Blizzard Entertainment’s global phenomenon.
Warcraft stars several of my faves, including Vikings‘ Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol), Dominic Cooper (starring in AMC’s newest TV series Preacher), Toby Kebbell (who co-stared with Jake Gyllenhaal in Prince of Persia), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), and more! Take a look at the synopsis and trailers below, which depict this high fantasy world of Azeroth and the interactions between humans and orcs.
The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.
So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.
For more, Legendary’s official YouTube channel has several featurettes with behind-the-scenes interviews with cast members and film creators who walk us through the creating the world of Warcraft (See what I did there? *giggles*)
