PREVIEW: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6, Episode 7 “The Broken Man”

June 3, 2016 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Yara and Theon regroup; the conflict over Riverrun escalates; Sansa and Jon gather their allies. Get a sneak peek of this week’s Game of Thrones (“The Broken Man”), airing Sunday, June 5 at 9:00pm ET|PT on HBO.

Since the end of Season 1, many of us have been hoping for a Stark Family reunion… and after watching the first six episodes of this current season, there’s reason to believe that our hopes haven’t been in vain.

Even though our hearts are still hurting from watching Wylis/Hodor’s sacrifice, “Blood of My Blood” gives us a reason to flail because Benjen Stark is back! Honestly, from the moment the mysterious man swoops in and saves Bran and Meera from the White Walkers… when we see his eyes and hear his voice, I just know it’s Benjen! He may be a half-White Walker now, but Benjen seems to know A LOT about Bran’s new role as the Three-Eyed Raven (Did you notice Bran “downloading” all those memories and knowledge?! And the flash of Mad King Aerys too!). I don’t know where the trio is headed now (hopefully to Castle Black/Winterfell to join Sansa and Jon), but I have a feeling that having Benjen around will be very useful!

It’s also possible that Arya will make her way to Winterfell. After having the chance to carry out another hit as No One and then deciding not to poison Lady Crane, it’s safe to say that Arya’s time serving the Many-Faced god is over… especially since Jaqn H’gar sends the Waif to finish her off. However, Arya has Needle in-hand and is in hiding. Hopefully she can make it off Braavos soon.

Some other interesting “Blood of My Blood” moments:

—Randyll Tarly is a complete jerk! Clearly, Sam gets his personality from his lovely mother Melessa. I’m very glad Sam decided to keep Gilly and Little Sam with him. I’m doubly glad that he also took the family Valyrian steel sword (Heartsbane). It’ll come in handy when the White Walkers arrive.

—In the Lannisters/Tyrells vs. High Sparrow saga, High Sparrow definitely won this round. He and his Faith Militant live to see another day, Jaime has been exiled to Riverrun, and Tommen and Margaery are firmly in his pocket… or are they? It seems to me that Margaery is the real winner. Yes, she has to give into High Sparrow for the time being, but she doesn’t have to do the walk of atonement, she and Loras are free, and most importantly, she’s pulling Tommen’s strings. Jaime’s gone, and I have no doubt Margaery will set her sights to getting rid of Cersei soon too. And when the time is right, Margaery will get her revenge on High Sparrow and Tommen will no doubt help her make it happen.

—We also get a peek at Walder Frey and he’s just as horrendous as the last time we see him in Season 3. This time, he’s lost Riverrun to Brynden the Blackfish and his control of the Riverlands is diminished because the Tully armies are consolidating. However, he has plans to use Edmure Tully (OHITHERE Tobias Menzies) to convince Brynden to vacate Riverrun…we’ll see how that goes!

ALSO, did anyone else realize that Brienne and Jaime are BOTH heading to Riverrun?! But, they’ll be on opposing sides it seems.

—So, Dany is sitting pretty this week. She has Drogon and the Dothraki have pledged to join her in her pogrom to reclaim the Iron Throne. There’s still a lot to do before returning to Westeros (like building a bunch of ships…ugh, Euron was right!), but to me, once Dany lands, it’s game over. She has the Dothraki, Unsullied, Second Sons (if Daario can be trusted), and THREE DRAGONS. No one can beat that force. As she promised, Dany is going to break the wheel… but thinking about all the bloodshed she’s going to bring upon Westeros makes me nervous.

In this week’s episode “The Broken Man”, written by Bryan Cogman, directed by Mark Mylod:

The High Sparrow eyes another target. Jaime confronts a hero. Arya makes a plan. The North is reminded. (via HBO)

In the photo stills and preview trailer, we see that Jamie (and Bronn!) preparing to take back Riverrun from the Tullys. We’ll also spend some time with Sansa and Jon as they start gathering support to reclaim Winterfell.

This is me hoping that Yara and Theon head North to join Sansa and Jon! What are some of your theories about the upcoming episode?

The Entertainment Weekly Spoiler Room offers a few more teasers too:

Much of the action this week takes place in Riverlands as the Starks scramble to lock up various houses of support, while Cersei tries desperately to hold onto her rapidly diminishing power in King’s Landing. Also: Expect at least one big reunion.
