PREVIEW: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6, Episode 6 “Blood of My Blood”

May 29, 2016 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Meera and Bran are still on the run from the White Walkers; Samwell and Gilly arrive at Horn Hill; the Lannisters and Tyrell execute their plan to save Margaery and Loras. Get a sneak peek of tonight’s Game of Thrones (“Blood of my Blood”), airing at 9:00pm ET|PT on HBO.

Can we even talk about last week’s Game of Thrones without beginning with the most out-of-this-world, heartbreaking moment: HOLD THE DOOR. My mind is still blown. The exact moment when I realized HODOR = HOLD THE DOOR, I felt a lot of feelings and thoughts. First, time travel is now 100% a thing in Game of Thrones and the HOLD THE DOOR moment represents an EPIC full circle moment. The After the Thrones guys articulated it in a way that made a lot of sense to me: “Bran destroyed his best friend twice. He destroyed his mind in the past and in the present, his body with his sacrifice.” *CRIES*

You have to wonder if Wylis knew all along that he would meet his end in the act of saving Bran from the White Walkers. Yet he still followed Bran and took care of him, right up until his final moment.

And let’s think about this a little more… Bran can observe the past, but can he change it? And what other secrets and answers will Bran’s warging uncover? Where is Meera taking Bran?

I’m so scared/nervous/excited… but I want to thank Wylis for giving his life for Bran and Meera. Rest in peace, Gentle Giant. (For even more feels, watch this interview with Kristian Nairn and Isaac Hampstead-Wright)

While we’re talking about uncovering secrets, this week we also learn the origins of the White Walkers. The Children of the Forest created the Night’s King and the White Walkers (by piercing men’s hearts with obsidian/dragonglass)! The First Men had crossed from Essos into Westeros and were destroying the Children’s sacred trees. The Children intended to used White Walkers to kill humanity and save their home from invasion. However, their environmentalist plans backfired… the White Walkers got out of control and even destroyed the very trees the Children meant to protect.

Now the White Walkers are pressing South and will surely catch the people of Westeros off guard (who still believe the Night’s King and wights to be mythological). It’s almost as if, when the Night’s King reached out and grabbed Bran in the warg dream, it was a signal that the White Walkers are no longer a far off threat. The danger has arrived and is knocking down their door.

A few other moments stood out to me in “The Door”:

—I love that Dany has at least partially forgiven Jorah. She commands him to find a cure for his greycale and come back to her service *WOOT* I need Jorah to hurry, because I do NOT trust Daario.

—I’m super curious about Kinvara. Does she know Melisandre? And how interesting that they both think they’ve found the Prince That Was Promised (Kinvara believes it’s Dany with her dragons, Melisandre now thinks it’s Jon). In any event, I’m glad Kinvara is Team Dany, although I wonder if we’ll ever find out what she knows that made Varys *so* nervous! And when Dany returns to Meereen, will she be OK with the deals Tyrion has been making?

—I can’t believe the Kingsmoot chose Uncle Euron over Yara! And all because of some crazy plan he has to build ships and marry Dany… it’s laughable. But I’m glad Yara and Theon are on the same page… plus they took the best ships and bounced. Maybe they’ll go join Jon and Sansa…?

—Speaking of Jon and Sansa: I was so glad to see Sansa dress down Littlefinger. He has never been her friend. I’m actually suspect of his advice about Brynden the Blackfish in Riverrun. We’ll see what information Brienne is able to uncover. In the mean time, Sansa gives herself and Jon a clothing upgrade and they’re off to start rally support to take Winterfell back from Ramsay.

—Also, #Briemund #Oafkeeper, the ship I never knew I needed, but I NEEEEEEEED it!

—Is Arya realllllly going to become No One? She has too many questions, feels too many feels (primarily vengeance) to give that all up to serve the Many-faced god, don’t you think?

What were your favorite moments from “The Door”?

In tonight’s episode “Blood of My Blood” (written by Bryan Cogman, directed by Jack Bender):

An old foe comes back into the picture. Gilly meets Sam’s family. Arya faces a difficult choice. Jaime faces off against the High Sparrow. (via HBO)

The photo stills and preview trailer released from this week’s episode show us Arya, who seems to have returned to the play, maybe this time to kill Lady Crane…? And this face-off between Jaime and High Sparrow has been coming for awhile. The Lannisters and Tyrells will likely carry out their plan to save Margaery and Loras, while putting down the Sparrows. But I really don’t think it will be as easy as they think.
