STARZ Moves ‘Power’, ‘Survivor’s Remorse’, & Original Primetime Series to Sundays

May 25, 2016 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

STARZ’s original series are moving from Saturday to Sunday at primetime, starting with Power and Survivor’s Remorse in July. Get a first look at the upcoming seasons!

Here at We So Nerdy, we’re TV watching and live-tweeting fiends, and Sunday nights offer some of our favorite shows! This past year, Once Upon a Time, Quantico, The Good Wife, and The Walking Dead have been the subject of our Sunday TV live-tweet flails. And currently, Game of Thrones and Preacher are giving our Sunday evenings several OMG/gif-worthy moments. Well, it looks like we’ll be able to add STARZ TV shows to the mix soon!

In an interview with THR, STARZ CEO Chris Albrecht announced that the will move all of their original programming (previously airing on Saturdays) to Sundays; instead, Saturdays will be reserved for movie premieres (a la HBO).

It seems that Outlander‘s second season (currently airing  Saturdays at 9:00pm ET|PT) will finish out the remaining episodes in that time slot. The migration will start on July 17 with the premiere of Power‘s third season, (STARZ’s’s highest-rated original series), and joined a week later with the season three premiere of  Survivor’s Remorse on July 24 at 10:00pm ET|PT. Future seasons of Outlander, The White Queen, Ash vs. Evil Dead, and Black Sails will follow.

According to Chris Albrecht:

“We see opportunity. Saturdays have worked so well that we feel our shows are going to be able to stand up on the most watched night of the week… Sundays are a prestige night and we feel our shows are definitely going to be very competitive, not just in viewership but in the attention-getting business on Sundays… So it made sense to move.”

Season 3 finds James St. Patrick as the owner of new nightclubs, out of the drug game, and in a rekindled relationship with his first love, Angela—the Assistant United States Attorney sworn to bring him to justice.  But just as they begin to believe James’ past criminal persona of Ghost may finally be behind them, both are forced to face the consequences of running from a life from which no one gets away clean. James’ estranged best friend Tommy has just reunited with his newly returned love, Holly, but he must attempt to not only rebuild Lobos’ devastated drug organization, but to kill Ghost—turning brother against brother. He’s on the verge of having everything he’s ever wanted, but will this new phase of James St. Patrick’s life end before it begins with old sins and the specter of Ghost coming back to haunt him? Be careful what you wish for.

The Season 3 premiere episode, “Call Me James” will air with a triple play beginning at 9:00pm ET|PT on Sunday, July 17, and follow with nine more hour-long episodes.

Survivor’s Remorse follows the life of Cam Calloway (Jessie T. Usher), a hard working, young basketball star who is thrust into the limelight after signing a huge contract with a pro basketball team in Atlanta. In Season 3 fame and fortune can’t shield Cam against tragedy. Each member of the Calloway family copes with the fallout of Uncle Julius’ accident in their own way. Family bonds are tested as a new season of “Survivor’s Remorse” explores themes of love and loss, the comforts and doubts found in religion, the danger of seeking out ancestral roots, the power of bad parenting, the pitfalls of public utterances, and the pain of dredging up the past.

The third season premieres on Sunday, July 24 at 10:00pm ET|PT, with the first two episodes of the season airing back-to-back: “The Night of the Crash” followed by “The Ritual.” The upcoming season will include 10 half-hour episodes.
