PREVIEW: ‘Outlander’ Season 2, Episode 5 “Untimely Resurrection”

May 4, 2016 By Funmbi Leave a Comment

Jamie and Claire do damage control after the disastrous ending to their dinner party. Get a sneak peek of this week’s Outlander (“Untimely Resurrection”), airing Saturday, May 7 at 9:00pm ET|PT on STARZ.

Sassenachs, I really think last week’s Outlander is the best episode of the series so far. I know this might be controversial to say (especially with how glorious “The Wedding” was). However, there was so much intense action in “La Dame Blanche” (from the opening scene to the very last). My heart was galloping and my tummy was fluttering for every second! Here were the moments that stood out most to me:

  • Jamie’s reaction to finding out that Black Jack Randall was still alive kind of scared me. The laughing and elation were a little creepy, no? I mean, I get that Jamie wants the chance to kill BJR himself, but still… And interestingly, that revelation (and some “69”) was the catalyst for Jamie and Claire reclaiming their intimacy. “Well I think… perhaps you’ve built me a lean-to at least. And a roof to keep out the rain.” *CRIES*
  • It was a little disconcerting to see Claire’s increasing distress about Frank’s wellbeing. She was/is so concerned about preserving the timeline in such a way that ensures Frank’s existence. But when Master Raymond told Claire that she would SEE Frank again, that definitely caught her (and our) attention. Of course, given “Through a Glass, Darkly” we have an idea of what lead to that reluctant reunion.
  • Jamie and Claire were in SO much danger! Claire was poisoned and then later, she, Mary, and Murtagh were attacked. Mary was raped and as a result of her delirium, her engagement to Vicomte Marigny is likely broken. Basically, Le Comte St. Germain sucks. You recall him taunting Claire about poison during dinner! And Le Comte had the police called during the fight and persuaded Prince Charles to leave with him. Isn’t enough, enough? Isn’t it time for Le Comte to let go of his anger at losing his ship/wine cargo?
  • Sandringham is a weasel, a no-good, duplicitous snake. Mark me, (*giggles* see what I did there 😉 ) Sandringham is up to no good and Claire and Jamie will suffer for it!
  • Speaking of “Mark me!”, don’t you almost feel bad for Prince Charles? He’s a monarch in exile, struggling to form a coalition to reclaim the British throne for the Stuarts, and he just found out his mistress (Louise) is leaving him! Charles is so out of touch, so myopic… if I didn’t already know what his rebellion cost Scotland, I’d really feel for the guy.

What were your most memorable “La Dame Blanche” moments? (Go HERE for a full recap of the episode.)

This week, Jamie and Claire try to do damage control after the disastrous ending to their dinner party. However, during a trip to visit the gardens of Versailles, our duo is seriously caught off guard. Take a look at synopsis of “Untimely Resurrection” (written by Richard Kahan, directed by Douglas Mackinnon):

Reunited, Jamie and Claire attempt to extinguish the fires their dinner party ignited; however, Claire is set off on an unexpected change of course. Jamie and Claire’s relationship is put to the ultimate test when the past rears its ugly head. (via STARZ)

This sounds SO ominous! What’s this about the past rearing “its ugly head”?! With that said, I’m mostly curious to learn how/if Mary and Alex’s relationship changes in the aftermath of her rape (and the public outing that occurred during dinner with the Frasers).

Watch these THREE clips from Saturday’s show. In the first clip, Claire and Jamie speculate about who could have ordered the attack on her and Mary. It turns out Jamie has some insight into the significance of La Dame Blanche. In the second video, Murtagh expresses a deep guilt about his inability to prevent Claire and Mary’s attack. And in the last clip, when Claire comes to visit with Mary, they discuss her next steps.

This is all a mess! My heart just breaks for Mary, Alex, and Murtagh… so much pain and guilt. I totally believe Murtagh when he says he will deliver justice. And I know Claire is upset that Jamie told folks at Maisson Elise that she was a witch, but that actually saved her and Mary in the attack.

Check out 12 photo stills from “Untimely Resurrection”, including Jamie and Claire at Versailles and Jamie “plotting” with Prince Charles. The new Outlander airs this Saturday, May 7 at 9:00pm ET|PT on STARZ. Tune in and come live tweet with @WeSoNerdy!
