PREVIEW: ‘Outlander’ Season 2, Episode 4 “La Dame Blanche”

Guess who’s coming to dinner??? Get a sneak peek of this week’s Outlander (“La Dame Blanche”), airing Saturday, April 30 at 9pm ET|PT on STARZ.

Sassenachs, I hate it when Mommy and Daddy fight! In last week’s Outlander, Operation Stop Culloden was really taking a toll on Jamie and Claire. Jamie struggled with the duplicitousness of it all…pretending to be loyal to Prince Charles while secretly trying to undermine him. And, at first, Jamie wasn’t having a lot of success undercutting the Jacobite Movement. I was as shocked as Jamie when Charles announced that he’d secured significant funding for his war.

Similarly, Claire struggled with her “lady of leisure” persona. Clearly a modern woman, she found that the social engagements and gossip weren’t enough. Of course Claire found fulfillment in her work with Mother Hildegarde and L’Hôpital des Anges! But who knew this would be the source of the most heated conflict between Claire and Jamie. He was obviously frustrated that the brunt of the plan fell on his shoulders:
Jamie: “When do I get to feel good? When do I get to find meaning in my day?” *sigh*

In the end, with help from Wee Fergus (pickpocket extraordinaire) and Mother Hildegarde (with her buddy Bach), Jamie, Claire, and Murtagh made headway in identifying one of Charles’ key supporters: SANDRINGHAM.

This made things even more difficult—if Jamie met with Sandringham (and Alex Randall), he’d learn that Black Jack still lived. Yet, even with Murtagh’s encouragement, Claire couldn’t bring herself to tell Jamie.

Truth be told, I can’t blame Claire! I appreciate that she wants to protect Jamie from the additional anguish. Claire also wants to prevent Jamie from seeking revenge because returning to Scotland would land him back in jail. However, did anyone else pick up on another concern Claire seems to have…? When Claire learned that Mary Hawkins was Frank’s ancestor, she said the following: “Frank’s very existence depended on Jack living for at least another year.”
And if Jamie kills Black Jack (who eventually marries Mary), Frank wouldn’t be born… talk about problematic! (See our full recap of “Useful Occupations and Deceptions” HERE!)

This Saturday, Jamie and Claire make some political and emotional progress in “La Dame Blanche” (written by Toni Graphia, directed by Douglas Mackinnon):

Claire and Jamie throw an elaborate dinner party intended to derail investors in Prince Charles’ war effort. Meanwhile, Claire’s revelation that Jack Randall is alive sparks Jamie in an unexpected way as he and Claire struggle to regain their physical intimacy. (via STARZ)

Thanks to our friends at STARZ, we have two clips to share from the upcoming episode. In the first, Wee Fergus schools Murtagh on the art of love and reading women. And in the second clip, Jamie presents Claire to their dinner party guests:

Wee Fergus is too charming and adorable! Perhaps it isn’t surprising that he’d have this experience with women after growing up in the brothel. Fergus is spot on…Mary loves Alex, but is bound to marry the Vicomte Marigny. What can she do?
And Claire and Jamie are STUNNING together in that dinner party clip… but why was Claire running late? Also, is anyone else super suspicious of Sandringham? I don’t want him anywhere near Jamie and Claire!

Check out 15+ images from “La Dame Blanche” and make sure to tune into STARZ at 9pm ET|PT on Saturday for the episode. I’ll be live tweeting, so join me while we watch (@WeSoNerdy)!
