Confirmation which stars Kerry Washington, Wendell Pierce, and Greg Kinnear premieres at 8 PM (ET/PT) on HBO tonight. Let’s meet some of the actors who portray the individuals who captured the world’s attention in 1991.
On July 1, 1991, President George H. W. Bush nominated Judge Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court of the United States, to replace Justice Thurgood Marshall who was retiring. Judge Thomas’ nomination hearings was the most captivating political news story since the Iran-Contra hearings a few years earlier. In the spotlight was attorney and law professor Anita Hill who accused Judge Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment. Tonight in HBO Films’ Confirmation, Kerry Washington as Anita Hill, Wendell Pierce as Judge Clarence Thomas, and Greg Kinnear as Democratic Senator Joe Biden who presided over the hearings as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, will retell the events that led to the advancement of workplace equality and “forever changed the way we think about sexual harassment, victims’ rights and modern-day race relations.”
